Enjoy the heck out of them while you've got them!
I'm currently sitting a "Death Watch" on a neighbor's cat, that
rather adopted us early on, so came to live here about half the
time, and now has come over here to die! The actual owners were
over yesterday for a visit, and may likely come back today, just
to say goodbye some more. Tried taking him back home three days
ago, but somehow, he got out again and we found him by our back
door about ten O'clock that night just as we were closing up
getting ready for bed. How he made it that distance is beyond
me, but it must have taken him a few hours to do it. We are all
agreed that this is where he wants to be, so now it is just time
to be letting him go.

Charlie, "El Gato", the neighbor's cat and our "Half-Cat", in
better days
Sorry to have turned this wonderful thread on its head, but just
a reminder of how important it is to appreciate these little
friends, every day that you can!!!

Oh, the heartbreaking part of being a pet lover.
My heart cries.
Sincerely,
Wayne

We are down from three cats and three dogs to one feral cat aka
Sheldon.
Not sure I have it in me to endure losing any more pets.

I know just what you mean Charlie. Losing "Charlie the Gato" was
really tough, and he wasn't even our cat!
We are also down to one cat now, a feral that was living through
the toughest, deepest snow winter in a long time here, under our
wood trailer and in our woodshed. He was truly wild for such a
seemingly young cat, and it took us until mid-summer to get him
to come inside our door. We left food out for him that winter,
but he wouldn't approach the food with us anywhere in sight, so
what his early history was remains a mystery, but someone must
have mistreated him &/or betrayed him while quite young. He had
been fixed, but other than that showed no signs of having been
domesticated at all.
In honor of how he came to be with us, we named him "Stray", and
though definitely a part of the family now, he remains quite
independent and aloof!

Scary thing is, he may actually be young enough to outlive
us!?!?
That too, would be quite sad!!!
