| Just a thought electric starter | |

| Hi not trying to teach my granmother to suck eggs (that's what | |
| they say in the uk) but having read the section on starter | |
| motors with a single cylinder motorcyle I usually prime the | |
| engine and rest it just over tdc and the use the button to start | |
| this allows it one and a half turns before tdc again giving | |
| momentum to the flywheel and giving the starter and easy task | |
| single cylinder engines come to rest just before tdc when | |
| stopped on the key ie not enough energy to get over compression | |
| if this prolongs the life of the dyno start it can't be a bad | |
| thing | |
| Regards mike | |

| I've never read what the recommended starting procedure is for | |
| the Dynastarter, but for the kickstart, it's not what you would | |
| expect. The book says to pull in the valve lifter, and kick | |
| until the motor is spiinnng well, and then drop the lifter, much | |
| in the same way that old Lister diesels in dump trucks and | |
| cement mixers were started, using the kinetic energy of the | |
| flywheel to start it. I wonder if the same recommendation | |
| applies to the Dynastarter, allowing it to spin the motor up | |
| with valve lifter open, and the dropping to start? | |
| Incidentally, I always roll my Harley backwards in gear onto | |
| compression when I stop, so the starter gets that same easy ride | |
| when it's time to go again... | |

| Hi I have a diesel stationary engine just like you say cock the | |
| decompressor and wind over fast as you can the the the | |
| decompressor flies of automatically then with luck you get the | |
| putt putt sound and your up and running so yes this may be the | |
| better way especially if they recommend that | |

| I just treat it like any big single. Ease over TDC, open | |
| enrichener, one swing to bring the fuel in, then over TDC again, | |
| switch on, and one swing to start. Works every time. | |
| I've never fancied the other method as it'll just wear out the | |
| kickstart, but on the electric foot, it might be the way to go? | |
