FRONT BRAKE OVALITY
By: exmoor beast Date: March 22, 2015, 4:11 am
---------------------------------------------------------
My ex Yugo militare has had the usual hard life & the front
wheel has been trued by some ham fisted squaddie with the effect
of pulling the brake drum out of true. Initially I tried ridding
the bike to see if the shoes was just rubbing a bit (like most
Brit bikes do) but the handlebar lever was pulsing in & out
quite dramatically.
A new front hub would end up costing in excess of 200 from
Italy so I have boxed the whole front wheel assembly off to
Stotfold engineering in Biggleswade who are going to rebuild
the wheel with a new rim, skim the drum & reline the shoes to
suit.
I will report back in a week or so's time with my findings.

let them true the rim first ,
i have had the ovality of a brake drum disappearing after
carefully trueing the rim
if some ham fisted mechanic tried to get a bent rim straight by
oulling the spokes , you can end up with a oval hub
