Amerikanisches Reich Venusian Expedition
By: Amerikanisches Reich Date: August 8, 2015, 12:38 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Vlkischer Beobachter Radio and Television Service Reports:
The fearless rocket forces and astronauts of the Amerikanisches
Reich are proud to announce a plan to send the first manned
expedition to Venus, Earth's closest planetary neighbor.
Although the surface and lower atmosphere of Venus are extremely
harsh, to the point of temperatures that will melt lead and with
devastating storms, and inimical to human life, the stratosphere
of the planet, where weather phenomena may be avoided, is,
though toxic, tolerable, provided a life-sustaining and
climate-controlled module. Furthermore, AR astronomers have
concluded that it can support zeppelins kept aloft with helium,
exactly as on Earth.
An exploratory mission will depart within the year, wherein an
interplanetary rocket will leave Earth's atmosphere at the time
of revolution which will bring Venus closest. The rocket will
accommodate six astronauts and deploy an atmospheric entry
module, which will then deploy a zeppelin and be allowed to sink
to the surface, where it will inevitably melt. The Reich
astronauts will spend a year assessing conditions in preparation
for a permanent station, held aloft by helium balloons in the
Venusian upper atmosphere.
Because Venus is nearer to the sun, it is expected that solar
panels will output vastly greater amounts of energy in the
Venusian sky, above the clouds, which will fuel all the
necessary functions of the zeppelin's living module.
Though the mission is fraught with danger, the courageous
explorers of the Reich never shrink from an opportunity to
conquer the most inhospitable environments on Earth and, now,
beyond. It is in the spirit of the Bergsteigener who ascended
the daunting Eiger and all the mounts of the Himalayas that they
now go forth, to lay the banner of the Reich in environments
that mankind has never heretofore endeavored to explore.
The Reichsministerium von Weltraum and the Braun Corporation
also wish to invite the State governments and companies of the
NCSA to invest in the project, which would allow them to not
only take part in a history-making accomplishment, but to share
the fruits of scientific research, and possibly to send their
own explorers to Venus.
Ehre, unsere tapferen Reiches Astronauten!

OOC: I'm not sure how this is all possible, seeing you haven't
even made a space program yet.

((Ah well Enduranca I was imagining the Reich to have a space
program before, but nothing interesting enough to be worth
mentioning -- launching communications satellites etc. This
would be the first non-routine endeavor.
But if I should have posted that a program existed beforehand, I
apologize.
More to come, anyway :) .))

((OOC: No worries! In fact, this could be an end goal of sorts
for the program- sort like the Space Race and Apollo program :D
))
IC: While some members of the ESA are skeptical of the
prospects, they agree it is plausible, and offer their support
if desired.

Governor Franklin Martinez, ecstatic to hear about the
furthering of space exploration and its sciences offers the
Reich assistance with costs and construction needs. He also
requests that one seat be set aside for a Oehiton scientist if
at all possible.

Vlkischer Beobachter Radio and Television Service Reports:
The Reichsministerium von Weltraum is proud to announce the
support and participation of the laudable scientists and
engineers of the States of Oehiton and Enduranca in the Venus
endeavor, which it has also announced will be named "Expedition
Freya", for Germanic counterpart of the goddess Venus.
It has invited personnel from these States to assist in the
preparatory stages, most especially the testing of the
stratospheric craft under the extreme heat conditions and
somewhat reduced gravity of Venus, which must be simulated,
possibly by elevating the position of a prototype in the Earth's
own stratosphere. Their deployment to the Venusian stratosphere,
and provisions for return of the astronauten to Earth, are also
important aspects of the mission which should undergo intense
analysis prior to the mission launch.
While the Reich currently possesses adequate rocket technology
to reach our planetary neighbor, the question of when and how to
deploy a module which will allow for escape from the Venusian
atmosphere remains open. Of course, no Reich astronauten balk at
the challenges and dangers, but the always-compassionate
Reichsfhrers und Volk would no doubt prefer to have them home
and safe after their epic journey of exploration!
Launching the habitation module and zeppelin, the crewed entry
module, and the departure module separately is under serious
consideration, though timing would be crucial. However, this
would ensure that the habitation module was successfully
deployed and capable of accommodating a crew before the
astronauten need commit to taking up their residence.
Regardless, should the mission prove a success, the
Reichsministerium von Weltraum is extremely excited at the
possibilities regarding not only the study of the surface and
atmosphere of Venus, but also for enhanced production of solar
energy and the accelerated growth of plants in this
lower-gravity, hot, virtually weather-free environment.
If current projections are correct, a permanent colony could
prove highly sustainable, and even prosperous -- the first step
towards humanity's predestined colonization of the galaxy, led
by the glorious Thousand-Year Reich!
Preparation is on-schedule and with the help of our dear allies,
it is expected that a rocket may deploy some portion of the
mission's necessities, at the least, within either the next or
the following closest point of revolution between Venus and
Earth, accounting for the trajectory of the spacecraft, which
will be semi-elliptical.

The closest route of travel to Venus is from point '1' to '2' in
the figure above, though the same craft could also meet Venus at
a much shorter interval thereafter at point '2*'.

The ESA pledges to create a rocket able to deliver supplies to
the Earth's twin- its initial proposal is a modified Sentry
vehicle, although with the help of Curiosity Space Centre, the
ARTEMIS heavy launch vehicle would be able to deliver equipment
at a faster speed.
