Distress on the High Seas
By: SomemuttupNorth Date: July 5, 2015, 6:11 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
"Mayday, mayday, mayday," the faint message played over the
international maritime channel. "This is Lieutenant Monica
Winters, Acting Captain of the Enduranca Naval Ship, FFG 062,
Juvat. We have been attacked by unknown foes, and request
immediate assistance. Damage to sh- *static* - flooding, fires,
loss of propulsion. Repeat, this is the ENS Juvat. Mayday,
mayday. Immediate assistance requested."
The Cabinet was alive before the President arrived. The talking
continued as he stormed into the room. "What's the sitrep?" he
barked.
"Her last known position was 200 miles west of Portland, sir," a
naval aide said. "International waters."
"Any responses?"
"Lt. Winters' message is on a loop, sir. No further response."
"What's on the way?"
"The corvettes Dominance and Perseverance are at flank speed,
and the submarine Lycan is following. The P-3 Tillikum is also
taking off to find the ship."
"Sir," said an aide from the ESA, "this is just why we need to
get more serious about-"
"Not NOW, dammit!" President North snapped. "We'll deal with
that, and with justice later. For now, let's go rescue our
people."
((OOC: This is from an issue I recently received through
Nationstates, but I thought it'd be interesting to play out. If
someone wants to claim responsibility- friendly fire, deliberate
assault, mistaken identity- go ahead! Respond however you
wish.))
As of 1700 hours yesterday, the DEN Navy has reported the
newest edition to the 7th fleet, a Carrier named NNS Intrepid,
and her escort of one cruiser and four destroyers, have gone
missing from port, along with a Battleship, two cruisers, four
more destroyers, and four frigates. The captain, a Howard G.
Rhye, is suspected of high treason, in taking the newest 7th
Fleet. Armed with the latest technology, she slipped away from
radar at 1400 hours, and from long range ground based radar at
1500 hours, before completely disappearing off the grid. All
efforts of finding her via satellite have proved impossible, and
as of now, our own details of her is the wake. Due to the
quickness of her departure, she managed to procure a full
division of soldiers from the Spetsnaz.
Our last official knowledge of her whereabouts was at 1950 last
night, when an Endurancan frigate was shelled at close range by
a group of 7th fleet frigates. This is not a Namenian Act. Once
again... this is not a Namenian act. We have already dispatched
a group to help find survivors, but we fear for those in the way
of this fleet.
Do not approach them. They are dangerous and armed with deadly
weaponry. We do not know what they are capable of.
Some time later, the P-3 spotted the Juvat, and, having plenty
of fuel, offered to search for the carrier group. The Lycan,
after donating some pumps and supplies to the frigate, also
embarked on the hunt.
The ENS Juvat received heavy damage, but after a day of
emergency repairs was able to proceed under her own power. The
total loss was 37 killed, including Captain Arthur Smith, and 55
wounded, and the loss of the ship's MH-60 helicopter. The two
corvettes provided escort back to Landfall.

The DEN government will accept any help it can get, but warns of
the strength of the proposed forces. A representative will be
sent to Endurancan to talk later.
Renegade Fleet
Somewhere off the waters of Endurancan
NNS NAC-701 Intrepid
Captain Howard Rhye was a cunning man. A man chosen for his
ability and his cleverness. Juvat had not been attacked to be
sunken, but rather, had been attacked to draw attention to it.
The ECM and EW modules on his frigates and ships had monitored
and collected valuable data on the systems that the Endurancans
used... including radio and communication systems, as the
frigate had been broadcasting loudly for help. And in turn...
monitored the situation. The reply came that a P-3 would come to
spot, and a submarine, the Lycan would come to help.
Victorious in their mission, the frigates had left the scene and
fled from the radar screens, gathering the information and
distributing it. Now they simply monitored the channels... and
the satellites. They still had an uplink to DEN, though they
knew that it would be terminated soon. Even now, they had
listened in on the radio chatter, and gathered that a force
would be coming to meet them. Poor P-3. It wouldn't find them
easily.
Rhye had ordered an AEWACS in the air on passive, and changed
course, his ship already 100 miles from the incident, well
within missile range and just at gun range of his 155 mm AGS,
and anything larger. Too bad that the one thing he didn't have
was an attack submarine. He would have loved to find out how
useful those were against the enemy.
Already he had his forces cruise slowly, and monitor the waters
for submarine activity. The ASW craft were alerted and ready to
deal with any threat... if it came up. And he knew it would.
Lycan was coming.

Out over the water, the P-3 continued its search, as the
submarine raced after the task force.
Enduranca Federation
Endurance Memorial Capitol, Landfall
President's Cabinet
From their view of the water, the members watched as the wounded
frigate finally limped back into port. President North rubbed
his eyes, sighing.
"How bad is the damage?" he asked.
"She'll need months in drydock," answered one of his admirals.
"She's close to a total loss."
The President shook his head. "And the search...?"
"No results yet."
He frowned, and looked back out the window. "I've been informed
we are facing a DEN rogue fleet. I don't need to remind you
about the fact that DEN is superior to us in technology, size,
and... damn, just about anything. Yet we cannot retreat and lick
our wounds from this offense.
"Admiral, I want every ship making flank speed for the task
force's last location. Leave the coast guard ship, the
Thundercloud, and two corvettes to guard our harbors. But we
NEED to find this fleet. What's the status on the destroyers and
our new subs?"
"They're not combat ready yet, sir."
"Well see to it."
"Aye." The Admiral saluted, and departed. As he left, North
turned to his Air Force minister. "General, put extra sorties in
our air, and get our other scout out. Dispatch a few Predator
drones to assist in the search.
"And while you're at it, have the Longswords loaded with B61s."
"... Sir? You mean..."
"Yes. If the worst occurs, I want us to be ready to reduce that
fleet to its component atoms."

DEN
Central Command, Hochburg
1st SS Division
CINCALL
"Where the hell is Fort Paradise! Get me Fort Paradise!" Emperor
Maximus screamed out, waving his arm around the air. He had just
been notified and despite normal procedures, barged into the war
room of Central. Vladimir, unfortunately, had been called out to
the new NCSA state, and was on a series of flights to the ship.
He could not be called into this day. "And someone give me
nuclear command!"
"Sir, Fort Paradise is on the line. General Martins is standing
by." The reply came about Fort Paradise. At least they had a
line to the nearest fort. They could easily get to the blasted
7th Fleet.
"Emperor, the JCS is here." A reply came, and Maximus looked up
to see Reicshfuhrer Ascrith standing before him, and behind him,
the Field Marshal, Sea Marshal, Air Marshal, and every other
Marshal there was. Finally they were all there.
"Here! Sit! Now! Dustin! Goddammit what was the make up of the
7th Fleet!" Maximus shouted, and the men ran to their seats,
sitting down and putting their gear down. Maximus was more than
pissed. He was enraged.
"Sir, the 7th fleet was only composed of two capitol ships:
Intrepid and Behemoth. Beyond that it was composed of three
cruisers, NC-703, 704, and 705... With three frigates, FG-706,
707, and 708... and eight Destroyers, DD-709 to 16. Beyond that
there are no other surface ships." Sea Marshal Dustin explained,
putting out the forward information.
"You said no other surface ships. Tovarisch... what about Subs?"
He asked, looking at him. He had a face of suspicion on it.
Dustin simply looked down, closed his eyes, and nodded.
"Four UAB-Ts... 701 to 704... one UMB-Tm... 709... and one
UBB-BI... 708..., Tovarishch Emperor..." He said, and looked up
at the Emperor.
"A Ballistic sub, Tovarishch? How in gods name did he get that
out?" He said, and the Sea Marshal simply shrugged. He didn't
even like the sound of that. "Lutz... what is the nuclear count.
Are we missing anything?"
"Tovarishch Emperor... It seems... that the 7th Fleet is
carrying 10 nuclear rounds for each barrel they own... and
twenty nuclear warheads for the cruise missiles. In addition...
they seem to have two nuclear torpedoes per sub. As for the Beta
I... It is..." He swallowed, scared to reply, almost. Nothing
except nuclear war and this man scared Lutz. "It is fully armed,
Tovarishch Emperor... with 28 MIRVs..."
"DAMN IT!" The Emperor shouted, slamming his fist on the table.
The man was enraged now. "DO EVERYTHING... Everything in your
hands to take that fleet down. And do not let a single nuclear
weapon be fired. I will shoot someone if it happens."
"Tovarisch Emperor... wouldn't it be wise to inform others of
the dangers of the nuclear weapons?" The Field Marshal replied,
and Maximus shook his head.
"Niet, Tovarishch. Those must remain secret at all costs.
Already the same weapons are threatened by the Spartans. We
cannot... must not... reveal our secret." Maximus said firmly.
"But Tovarishch Emperor, won't they use that against us?" Dustin
was the one to speak this time.
"Yes, Tovarishch... and if they do, you can be assured we will
wipe them from the map. Dustin, what do we have that can get out
there fast?" He asked, Fort Paradise already on speaker now.
"Sir, we can get the Siege Class out there to perform ASW
operations, should Lutz agree, though we may be slightly
troubled. We can ask our allies for help with operations.
Gondor, for example, can stage out of Fort Paradise for heavy
land based ASW operations with our Siege Class and the G-47M."
Dustin replied, the meeting finally getting somewhere. "We can
have the 3rd Fleet leave immediately from Fort Paradise, though
I will need the help from all the Tetrarchs."
"And Tovarisch Dustin, sir, I can provide those." The Sub
Commander replied. "You'll have every one at your disposal,
sir."
"Thank you, Tovarishch." Maximus replied, and looked down at the
map. "Giaccobe... I need as many recon planes scouring the seas
as you can get. And I need ASW operations STAT. Martins, what's
the status of the 3rd fleet?"
"She is fully ready, Tovarishch Emperor." Martins replied. "We
have OTH scanning the seas as we speak, but the 7th fleet's
escorts don't seem to be coming up on the radar screens. Are
they the Panther Class?"
"Aye, Tovarishch. The Carrier and Battleship should be very well
visible, however." Dustin replied.
"Good. We have our orders. Now we simply contact our allies.
Tell Arik to speak to the Gondorian King, and tell the rep to
contact President North. NOW." Maximus ordered, and sighed. "I
wonder what Captain Rhye is doing..."
7th Fleet
100 miles away from the Frigates
NAC-701 Intrepid
This ain't Rock and Roll! This is Genocide!
Captain Rhye was dancing across the flight deck of the carrier,
the flight crews clapping their hands to the beat of the music.
The area in front, beside, and behind him was clear as he almost
comically danced across the deck, moving slowly forward. Across
the entire ship, the same song was playing on the PA system:
Diamond Dogs. Classic David Bowie.
Crawling down the alley on your hands and knee
I'm sure you're not protected, for it's plain to see
The diamond dogs are poachers and they hide behind trees
Hunt you to the ground they will, mannequins with kill appeal
I'll keep a friend serene
(Will they come?)
Oh baby, come unto me
(Will they come?)
Well, she's come, been and gone
It was at the last part of each of the chorus that he pointed
his two hands to the sky, turning them into guns. Out of the
side of the ship, three missiles (one for each line) shot up,
twisting into the air and heading in the direction of the P-3,
rocketing along at full speed. Smiling, he joined in with the
song. "Young Girls, they call them the Diamond Dogs!"

Somewhere over the Pacific Ocean
Enduranca Federal Air Force
P-3 Orion, "Tillikum"
"Anything yet?" The captain asked the crew back in the cabin.
"No, sir," came a reply. "Just clouds and wake."
He sighed. It had been hours since they began the hunt. How hard
could it be to find a task force, anyways?
In all honesty, though... the thought of going up against so
many destroyers and frigates. His fragile Orion wouldn't stand a
chance against their armaments.
Suddenly, a high-pitched screeching sound confirmed the worst,
and his nightmare came true.
"Missiles in the air!" Shouted the weapons officer.
"Countermeasures deploying!"
A stream of red-hot flares billowed out of the rear of the
aircraft, hoping to divert the incoming missiles. At the same
time, the pilot rolled the airplane and dove, G-forces pressing
against the frame, bulkhead creaking in protest as the plane
turned to evade. He had no time to process what had happened;
his reaction was instinctual, to get away and to survive. He had
no idea what just happened.
Luckily for him, a camera on the body of the Orion was
transmitting live... and while it showed the contrails of the
approaching death, it also pointed to their origin...

The three missiles streaked in at mach 3, and flew right for the
large aircraft. They maneuvered easily, and detonated just feet
from the aircraft, showering it's wings and it's tail with hot
shrapnel that could ignite fuel. The almost smokeless contrails
of the missile did lead back to the ship, but in reality it
would be very hard to trace the weapon. Very hard indeed.
