numbers are going down, right ?
Not going down, just growing less exponentially (possibly
polynomially only)
This is to be expected with the massive quarantaine measures in
place.
Mass quarantaine started Jan. 23, then it took another
incubation period or two (one week) and there was also the
inevitable backlog and delay in testing & reporting.
So we now finally see the effect of the drastic social
distancing control measures, whose goal is to reduce the
effective reproductive number R_eff as much as possible.
Quite disturbingly, however, the number of new infections though
not increasing any more like in the full exponential phase,
seems not to not go down significantly.
So there is still a lot of infections going on despite the fact
that the big cities are almost completely locked down with
practically zero social community interaction (outside of the
hospitals) any more.
This is copncerning because it points to a very high base
reproductive Number R0 (initially estimated at 2.6 but maybe
much higher, some authors put it at 4 or above) and/or other
means of infection, e.g. airborne ?

New coronavirus cases spike by nearly 15,000 in China's Hubei
province as officials expand diagnosis criteria
Hubei province reported a nearly tenfold increase in cases on
Thursday.
ByMorgan Winsor
February 13, 2020, 7:07 AM
The Health Commission of Hubei Province announced an additional
14,840 cases of the newly identified virus, known officially as
COVID-19, as well as 242 more deaths.
The commission explained in a press release that the record
spike was due to a change in how cases are diagnosed and
counted, with the total number of confirmed cases now including
"clinically diagnosed cases," or patients who showed symptoms of
the disease and were diagnosed through CT scans of the lungs,
for instance, but have not yet had laboratory testing or had
died before having the chance.
The expanded criteria is meant to ensure "that patients can
receive standardized treatment according to confirmed cases as
early as possible to further improve the success rate of
treatment," the commission said.

So we now know that deaths have actually been under counted by
about factor 2 (now about 200+ daily increase vs. 100+
yesterday)
But infections probably even (much) more under counted than
deaths.
So final CFR may turn out quite low. (my estimate: less than 1%
BUT only in non-overwhelmed health system)
