Annual neuro appointment
By: agate Date: September 3, 2025, 12:40 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I usually reschedule any appointment if the weather is apt to be
over 90' but this time I took my chances. The annual appointment
with my neuro had already been rescheduled once. It was to have
been in March, and when I postponed it, the next available time
was in September.
I was relying on air conditioning to be working
everywhere--paratransit vans, lobbies where I would need to
wait, and the doctor's office. I was lucky and had very little
time out in the oppressive heat.
She and I had a pleasant talk, and I told her about my fall in
June. She did a few brief reflex tests and
strength-against-resistance tests, the usual finger-to-nose
test, and that was all.
Then I was on my way, after setting up another appointment in
September 2026.
She is my idea of an excellent neurologist. If I had a more
complicated case of MS, I would probably feel differently. I
would want someone who specializes in MS. But this one always
leaves the way open for me to decide. It's as if she realizes
that even with her neurological training and experience, she
doesn't know as much about my MS as I do. She knows a lot about
MS in general but it's probably true that if you've seen one
case of MS, you've seen one case of MS. If you try and
generalize about it, you're on shaky ground.
