| Measles' deadliest sequelae | |

| Some time ago some experts were speculating that MS might be | |
| caused by a dormant measles infection. If you ever had measles, | |
| it could (but did not necessarily) lie dormant in your system | |
| for many years, then flare up as MS. | |
| I had measles as a child, and my fever was 105' at the time. | |
| Those with measles were routinely kept in a darkened room | |
| because it was believed that measles could cause blindness. My 3 | |
| siblings had had measles together about 10 years earlier, and my | |
| sister developed mastoiditis in connection with her case of | |
| measles. She was quite sick but she did recover. | |
| So measles is no simple disease. And it actually does cause a | |
| serious neurological disorder though the theory that it might | |
| cause MS is no longer being considered. | |
| There is an "anti-vax" movement in the US: people who are | |
| opposed to childhood vaccinations and even to vaccinations in | |
| general. This article stresses the importance of the measles | |
| vaccine. | |
