Measles' deadliest sequelae

Some time ago some experts were speculating that MS might be
caused by a dormant measles infection. If you ever had measles,
it could (but did not necessarily) lie dormant in your system
for many years, then flare up as MS.
I had measles as a child, and my fever was 105' at the time.
Those with measles were routinely kept in a darkened room
because it was believed that measles could cause blindness. My 3
siblings had had measles together about 10 years earlier, and my
sister developed mastoiditis in connection with her case of
measles. She was quite sick but she did recover.
So measles is no simple disease. And it actually does cause a
serious neurological disorder though the theory that it might
cause MS is no longer being considered.
There is an "anti-vax" movement in the US: people who are
opposed to childhood vaccinations and even to vaccinations in
general. This article stresses the importance of the measles
vaccine.
