Hi, I'm the Utah AE86 guy.

---------------------------------------------------------
Hi guys. I'm that annoying guy on the facebook page moving from
Utah to Michigan. A little about me.
I've been working on and building cars for the past 6 years,
professionally and unprofessionally. I went through the Toyota
T-Ten program at Weber State University, and am getting my
bachelor's degree in Automotive Technology. It's pretty rad
stuff. I just got hired by Advantage Technical to work on the
Ford Technical Hotline. It should be pretty cool. I used to live
in AZ, which is where I got into 86s, so some of my posts and
pictures you'll see some AZ Toyota guys in. FYI, I'm pretty much
just copying and pasting a bunch of stuff from my Club4AG build
thread.
I picked up this red SR5 coupe for $300, in a little town in
Southern Utah. Non-running, but totally worth it.

Had a barbeque with the AZ Toyota guys to get her running...

I then drove her 700 miles from Phoenix AZ to Ogden UT (where I
currently live). The 4AC held on for all of those miles, then
blew up about 2 weeks after I got up her. Then I picked up a GTS
swap for $600...

junkyard motor. it was pretty dirty.
I rebuilt the top end, still has a decent bottom end.

So, since I'm having issues copying and pasting now (photo links
are broken?), I'm going to post as much as I can and explain as
I go. These are all from about a year and a half ago.
I got the car running on the 4AGE pretty decent, was getting
ready for my first drift event, and it started puking smoke. The
brand new head I had, had a bad valve seal. Kinda sucks. I was
pissed at the machine shop.

I pulled the cam cap and saw this.

Time to rebuild again. All new bearings, piston rings, etc. And
a new head! Except, I made a rookie mistake and didn't replace
the oil pump.

I went out drifting, and the oil pump failed. I stopped drifting
after oil pressure dropped to like 10 psi. It was the last event
of the season, so I had winter to rebuild. I did a lot more than
just slap an oil pump on it.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xap1/v/t1.0-9/1557686_7443876…
and after installing everything, it was time for another drift
event.

At which, I blew the motor. I knew that after the oil pump
failing, slapping a new one on was only a bandaid. The bearings
were already worn, and oil pressure was a little iffy.

Which brings me to the thing that I am going through right now,
a Beams 3SGE swap.

What I want to know is how you manage to blow motors but not SR5
axles.

nice!
i had an sr5 rear end with my 20v for a loooong time. No issues.
I guess if your tire pressures are 50psi there's not enough grip
to break em. *shrug*

before I broke one.

I don't clutch kick much. I flick it and power on. I have been
using take off tires without much grip, and lots of tire
pressure, which seems to work out pretty decent haha. But, with
the Beams swap I'm pretty sure I'll blow up the SR5 rear end. I
plan on building a Ford 8.8 rear end made to fit (a couple of my
86 buddies from the west coast have done this with great
success).
Plus, I keep blowing up motors. hahaha.

I broke that axle in '08. It's still broken. Hasn't been driven
since.
