Yeah I just got to be careful that I don't over do it, If I am
making 300w and the house is using 200w the digital meter thinks
I am still drawing 100w because it cannot see which way the
power is traveling in the wires.
I end up paying for 100w of my own electric !!!!.
Careful control will win the day though.

@HGL asked me a question that should be a posted part of the
discussion here.
"Do I need to contact Detroit Edison and have them change the
meter to use the 300 watt Grid tie Inverter?"
No. The grid tie inverter has Island Protection, which means if
the grid goes down it will not send voltage out the lines to
possibly injure a line worker.
Can you sell power back to the utility? First, it is highly
unlikely you would make enough power. Secondly, the utilities
have made that very difficult and I wouldn't suggest stirring
that can of worms unless you like pain.
A kw of power may cost 28 cents. Lets say you accidentally
produce more power than you are using. For instance you produce
200 watts for ten minutes in excess of what you consume. But on
average you produce with solar and wind 500 watts 12 hours a day
x 30 days in a billing cycle. Do the math!
Worrying about producing a little excess power would be like
worrying someone made toast one too many times in a month, or
ran the hairdryer one too many times.
The focus should be on producing free energy to offset your
electric bill over a year, or on being more self reliant or
knowing how to provide power should the grid go down.
Only one time did I see the electric meter come to a complete
stop. It was sunny and windy and I had just about everything
turned off.

lynx an ness i bought the 12v china 300 watt GTI from lynx...
are you lynx using old meter or have you been switched to new
smart meter.. do i need to call an have Edison do anything? to
my smart meter?..again to make it clear lynx are you running
smart meter edison version an been converted,to use 12v china
GTI on new meter...i thought these where plug an play..tied to
smart meter..i do not want to get stuck with paying for my own
energy..grid tie

@hgl
I am also using the 300w units from China, You just need to use
your common sense when you are using them.
If your house only uses 200w during the day then there is no
point in pumping more from your system.
You mention in another post that you have to switch the unit
off....Mine shuts down at 12.8v, if the lights are counting
1,2,3 etc then it is dumping but if the 3 green lights are doing
1,2,1,3 etc then it has stopped dumping and is pulling no power
from the battery.

thank you lynx for clarification.. and for your response lynx..
i have heard horror stories .. about power companies..i do not
want to open a can of worms...everything is code talked with
electrician, yes i agree just go about my business .an i did
read an understand that they where island protect as is my
generators.. that's what confused me..when i first plugged them
in i did zero my meter..for two hours the meter recognized i was
feeding it with both solar an wind going in a big battery bank
.. it coded my meter as grid tie class 6 ..have seen how much
i'm giving back it will show you your usage.. i use very little
power....i watch very close they both work well fan dose not
even come on green light flashing i turn them off at 12.6 all
good....result in self reliance for sure... 175 spun all day i
will give a report later today..still is going did very well
...i read something on board that i did not understand ..i
remember getting paid for excess power in the 70's ..now they
just give you credit..till you zero..people are asking what is
it i just say it is art work they say its pretty i smile
again thank you an the offer still stands you need any thing let
us know..

Checked my battery bank today and noticed my home made dump load
was going crazy dumping power from 2 solar panels and my
hawt.....A quick glance at the power jack GTI gave me the
dreaded red fault light was on. :'(
Removed the cover and found the internal fuse had blown to
bits....Further testing revealed two 11 amp high voltage mosfets
had gone short circuit.
Replaced mosfets with some 18 amp chips and replaced the
fuse......Good news its up and running again. ;)
moral to this is it may be better to run two GTI`s in parallel
if the pocket can stretch to it just in case one goes up the
spout then at least you wont cook your battery`s if you don't
realise its stopped working.....just a thought.

i have just left them plugged in all night 24 /7 now on solar
grid...an the fan dose not even come on ...lights are flashing
green all the time 1-2 ..1-2 even at night.. i have not noticed
anything unusual a little battery drain over night down to
13-12.8 in the morning then solar recharges to 14.2 the are set
on 24/7 now again on the 2 Trojan 12v 130 ah batteries one
for both, seem to be doing fine.. thinking of adding more..?

from my grid ...don't trust it
to night was watching turbine the both gti that are
connected to solar battery grid... that is what is feeding them
both gti are connected too solar battery grid at night... other
one was fine..no poke off that one..?every thing is grounded
3 pokes from same gti something is shorting an feeding power to
gti box making it hot..

GTI's will fail. Moisture and humidity are very damaging.
Applying a sudden heavy DC current can sometimes pop the fuse or
the capacitor. GTI's do not come with guarantees because they
are too susceptible to damage. It is possible to repair them,
look at for the many repair videos online.
I would strongly suggest you not run these sensitive pieces of
electronics outside or in high humidity locations.
