| @ Barbados: | |
| D1 to D4 much depends on the power of your turbine but to be on | |
| the safe side you would be best using a current rating that is | |
| as good as your turbine. My 50w turbine only has 1n5407 diodes | |
| for D1-D4 and only 220uf caps,(The higher the cap value the more | |
| current will pass through diodes). | |
| My advice is to use all the same type of diodes. | |
| If you are using a silicon bridge then use silicon diodes for | |
| the doubler. | |
| @ Francisco: | |
| Crazyguy is correct, Its such a simple circuit that it could | |
| just be hard wired to a bridge (Same as lynx did). | |
| NB: | |
| ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT THE BRIDGE RECTIFIER SECTION IS RATED | |
| ABOVE THE TURBINE RATED OUTPUT. | |
| This will ensure that should any caps blow out then the turbine | |
| will always be loaded. | |

| Thank you all !!! I just did the components assembly , and you | |
| know What ? it works !!! ( but of course you already new that) | |
| ;D ;D ;D | |

| What needs to change in this circuit for a solar dc boost? | |

| Okay. I have read about this cct in a few different threads and | |
| it was mentioned that it could be used as a solar booster as | |
| well. | |

| Nessprojects, | |
| I had to clear out the attachment folders some time ago because | |
| the forum had a low limit. I have since increased the limit. | |
| Unfortunately the circuit diagrams in this topic were deleted. | |
| Any chance you could repost the diagram. I can draw it up as | |
| well if you don't have it. Also I am going to try designing the | |
| new alt for the larger Seagull to cutin at 160 rpm. Anything | |
| below that will be low wind and will go through a boost. What | |
| caps would you suggest for 0-20 watts into a 24 volt battery? | |

| @ Lynx | |
| Unfortunately I had a computer crash and lost the original | |
| pictures a short time ago. :'( | |
| I would stick with the 220uf caps to start with and build your | |
| way up, steady as you go. | |
| @cg | |
| Although I have not tested your circuit in real life with the | |
| additional negative pulses, I think it could work to a advantage | |
| by using the 220uf normal setup on the + side as normal then | |
| maybe some smaller caps on the negative side. Maybe this will | |
| give a better cut-in at very slow speeds ?. | |
| only tests will tell I suppose. Many options to choose from by | |
| adding switches and caps in parallel. | |
| Update: I found the original circuit wizard file so I have re | |
| posted the picture in the first post. | |

| @ness an the rest, who have contributed to the boost circuit | |
| Kudos to all..been trying to absorb the understanding an | |
| knowledge of what the boost circuit technology doseit is | |
| simple, A voltage multiplier is an electrical circuit that | |
| converts AC electrical power from a lower voltage to a higher DC | |
| voltage, typically using a network of capacitors and diodes.an | |
| pulse charge the battery is my understanding ... every vawt must | |
| have a sweet spot for the rpm cut in to charge ...so rather | |
| waste low voltage in low rpm, double an store it an prevent | |
| stall correct? reason for circuit to boost low ac bottom ac | |
| current of sine low voltage to double the current an load it | |
| into cap doubling low voltage pushing it threw the positive side | |
| of rectifier ...?till you reach cut in.. how do you determine | |
| cut in RPM? | |
| so your loading the caps an charging till it reaches the cut in | |
| charge speed..i did notice that i had a little drop off without | |
| the circuit it settled back to 12.65 matched 1-1 source to load | |
| so the boost was pushing it up .010-.020 it would not stall as | |
| it climbed increased 12.65, 12.75,12.85 at 10- 15 mph? under | |
| low wind. i had constant 10-mph wind to day ran all day with | |
| some gust to 15 pushing the boost up.. is this a deep cycle | |
| charge or a quick surface charge? till cut in? excuse my lack of | |
| electronic knowledge @cg i do not know everything so i will eat | |
| some crow just for you....have seen some loss of efficiency | |
| today.... even with good wind.. with out the boost | |
| circuit..1000uf | |
| the 220uf seems to be a good all around boost circuit i will try | |
| it..how do you determine which is choice.. an what caps to | |
| use... as you where experimenting with the 175 12v an 24 v where | |
| you looking for the sweet spot that would work with both | |
| voltages?must be a give an take median | |

| i played with the ness circuit today ...i have it going..with an | |
| with out had good stable wind 10-15 mph but it seems to be | |
| restricted.. booster caps maybe to big? with out the circuit i | |
| ran a 1000 watt inverter an a single fan pulled the battery down | |
| to 12.11 with a heavy load slowed the vawt.. i saw the real | |
| output of PMA threw after going threw the rectifier it was all | |
| over the place it was 9.3+ v an then 11 .0 then then 8v then | |
| 12.11..then i hooked up the circuit to see if it would charge | |
| faster it charged but not as fast as the video did boost in the | |
| m/a not like buck booster..an drill battery..lynx showed | |
| again is this a surface charge or a deep cycle trickle charge? i | |
| have it temporary wired in line an it did not recover to 12.87 | |
| of coarse wind did die down then start up again... i think | |
| battery is at 12.54 on load side..so tomorrow i will put it on | |
| solar or leave it on the wind an see... but your video Lynx | |
| was showing a fast charge on small battery this is a deep cycle | |
| battery? an i may need to equalize it... a used deep cycle | |
| marine battery it was@ 11.5 when i got it. never been equalized | |
| to 14.6 v ..being sealed closed battery sealed type deep cycle | |
| my meter should shows it charging . i did see some small amp | |
| spikes nothing above 1 amp.saw a few watts but it was charging? | |
| i think i will build the 220uf learning..new stuff about a | |
| simple circuit.. | |
| open for suggestions thanks cg for the response seems like | |
| multiple factors evolved | |
| nice board lay out CG | |

| @HGL | |
| Don't believe everything a digital meter tells you when it comes | |
| down to spikey voltage. | |
| the purpose of this booster is to double the voltage of the | |
| turbine so it will charge with something instead of nothing. The | |
| current through the device is decided with the size of the 2 | |
| caps until the main rectifier takes over the bulk of the work. | |
