Seagull 60 and 30 DIY Plans

With all the great input and recommendations the Seagull has
been given a long over-due update. The bearing is now oiled and
the shaft runs on an adjustable single ball bearing. The blades
are now aluminum with the SUT design, (or they can still be made
with fiberglass and an epoxied TE), The diameter has dropped to
24" and the height to 28" (based on easy to find 14" aluminum
flashing). The alternator now has N52 Neo magnets and a 3 phase
design that kicks out 12 volts easily at 150 rpm. 150 rpm is
about TSR 1.3 in a 7-8 mph wind. The magnet plate is a simple
6" steel square 1/8" thick. The blade profile is now the
proprietary Lynx Wind airfoil.
Even with the drop in size the output is much better due to the
efficient alternator and low resistance stator coils.
If anyone that has made the Seagull 75 wants a set of new update
plans, just PM. It wouldn't be hard to retrofit the Seagull 75
with the improved alternator.

The Seagull 30 is a little tiger. It is smallish but makes a
great thrum sound in good winds as its single phase alt grinds
out power. I was not pleased with startup in light winds. Not
that it actually matters because there isn't much power in 7mph
and below. But obviously the Seagull 60 can't just be scaled
down. Air molecules don't scale.
So the blades have been changed from 3.5" wide to 4" wide with
much better low end torque. Upper end speed may not be as good
but most of us see 7-25 mph winds.
I used SUT's aluminum blade process for the turbine. Very
simple and slick. I did use the stiffer shiny aluminum flashing
as a test. Worked very well for the small turbine.
