Lynx H-Twin Steam engine
By: lynx wind Date: April 24, 2016, 11:16 am

Hey guys. As some of you know I started with a passion for
steam power and looked for a suitable alternator for steam which
took me over to wind. The PMAs that wind uses is perfect for
the slow rpm high torque of steam engines.
Anyway, I have long wanted to bring to market an affordable
powerful steam engine designed to actually do work. There are
so many toy and display type engines, but few work engines, and
those are pricey. Not to mention a large boiler is needed along
with controls and auxiliaries.
So finally I am doing it. I have funding and am pursuing two
lines of development. One is a proprietary design, powerful,
high technology suited for industry, automotive, and electrical
generation. The other is a 2 HP H-Twin oscillating engine, with
integrated feed-pup, generator capable of 12 volt and 120 vac
output.
Both models have been CAD designed and prototyped.
The H -Twin is very compact and beefy. Bore is 1-5/8" x stroke
2.25" There are 4 power strokes per revolution and it is
designed as a pressure engine with 5-50 PSI saturated steam. max
temp is 375 F. It is intended to be powered off a wood stove or
outside wood fire. Monotube boilers are very safe and because
max pressure is 50 psi it is not complicated. If the fire burns
down the power output drops.
I will keep you guys posted on progress. i hope to have some
testing done by the end of May. Attached is a picture of some
of the rough castings.

Why don't you have a LYNXSTEAM FORUM ?

This is excellent news! I for one have an over abundance of
fuels on my 40 acre tree farm. It will be great to see the
progress!
Thanks for sharing the announcement :)

Cool. This might work nicely with the 1.5 sq meter parabolic
trough I'm working on, though I might need a couple in series to
produce the volume of steam this will use.
Good observation, that the gap between toys and real working
engines is significant.
Keep us posted

This guy in India makes steam engines 2.5-50 HP
http://www.tinytechindia.com/index.php
He is not shy about his disdain for big energy and the
government.
From his steam engine page:
Every American farmer had his own steam engine up to 1930.
Every American farmer was a free citizen up to 1930. After that
he became slave of electricity grid companies. So he is no more
enjoying his freedom and liberty.
You don't have to be American to recognize what we have lost

i hope to have some testing done by the end of May
Any progress on this? Any hope of getting my hands on some or
the raw castings or even the sand patterns? Or something similar
Thanks,
Turtle

Ooops, didn't see this. I should explain that I have had quite
a few life disasters that have set me back on hobbies. The
H-Twin is half done, and the CAD drawings were done, but it will
be months before any more progress is made.

I lost access to my machine shop tools, so Keith Turtle, if you
want, I can send you the mostly completed engine if you agree to
finish it. Probably 10-12 hours work left. Just pm me and we
will work something out. I also have the all the wood patterns
for casting I can send you.
