| boiler water level, searching for site tube source???? | |

| Hi, does anyone know where I can find a suitable site tube that | |
| can used with flash boiler? Acrylic or glass?? | |
| If spark plugs are used to detect the high and low water level | |
| with LED electronic circuit, is there a problem with the spark | |
| plugs rusting? Should the boiler be connected to earth ground? | |

| don't know about site tube, but the spark plugs. can't you get | |
| platinum ones? the led circuit could be it's own circuit and I | |
| don't know why it would need an earth ground. Just put a 9v | |
| battery, led and spark plug in a series circuit. close up the | |
| gap to very small, it may work. I guess it depends how much | |
| mineralization the water has. | |
| I was wondering what you do about "scale" in a monotube boiler. | |
| It sure clogs up my water heater and home humidifier. | |

| I strongly advise against building a boiler with any kind of | |
| pressure vessel. The Lamont design has a pressure vessel. If | |
| you need a sight glass it isn't strictly a monotube. I don't | |
| like criticizing but feel I need to be on record here | |
| discouraging pressure vessel boilers. It isn't as dangerous as | |
| a big pressure vessel, but still has potential to rupture and | |
| release a lot of hot scalding water and steam. | |
| I have had monotube boilers leak, rupture, break a weld...the | |
| worst that happens is pressure drops and water leaks out. | |
| A safety relief valve needs to be sufficient to release a lot of | |
| volume. Air pressure tank relief valves aren't good enough when | |
| using a pressure vessel. | |
| The Lamont boiler was used for engines that were required to | |
| deliver a wide range of power in a short span (Navy ships). | |
| Similar to merging on a freeway and then coming off the gas. If | |
| you are building a steady rpm type motor to turn a generator you | |
| wont need the large reservoir of energy the Lamont is designed | |
| for. | |
| Think about eliminating the Lamont design aspect and just use | |
| tubing. | |
| I used a single sensor about 1/2 way up to sense water. This | |
| was a spark plug screwed into a 1/4" MPT fitting in the monotube | |
| circuit. I did a YouTube video on the very simple circuit for | |
| activating a small electric pump. Google "lynx steam boiler | |
| circuitry youtube" If you don't want to use the electric pump | |
| you can control a solenoid to allow cool water in from an air | |
| pressure tank filled with water. As long as the air pressure in | |
| the tank is higher than boiler it will fill. I use 12 volt | |
| solenoids on the inlet. | |

| What about using a pressure valve from a water heater? They are | |
| supposed to release at around 150 psig. | |
