Ideas on how to light these Leds
By: barbados Date: April 22, 2014, 7:00 pm

Hi Guys,
I am really enjoying this forum, it just seems to be a hot bed
for ideas and innovations!
I recently came across these leds (

/>,
http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G19461<br
/>) and wondered if they could be economically driven by joule
lamp coils?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Thanks
Andre

The first one listed just needs 9-12 vdc. You might be able to
pulse the DC and fool the eye into thinking its on all the time.
I'd use the circuit out of a piezo buzzer (remove the buzzer)
and run to the base of a 2N3055 transistor. That will turn the
transistor on and off at a high rate and you might save some
current.

Firstly Hi barbados and welcome,
Both of these led's must be run at the correct current or you
will simply burn them out.
the 10w led is comprised of 3 rows of 3 colums of 1w led's, now
generally a 1w led can be driven with a max of 350ma hence
multiply this by the 3 gives the 1 Amp specified or near enough.
The smaller one needs a lower current because of the higher
voltage + they are not going to be as bright.
I have a scematic of a circuit to run led's at any given current
rating and will post it as soon as i sort this tempremental
computer out.
