| Fantastic to hear you are up and flying, guess we got to call | |
| you captain lynx now. ;D | |
| tracked down some foam board but wow, sort of expensive in | |
| respect of the price you guys pay + I think it has a small | |
| amount of clay in it so it is slightly heavier, Oh well I think | |
| it will have to do. Going to order it soon. | |
| If you want a slow plane check this guys plane out ..... | |

| That is incredibly slow. Love the video. The secret is wing | |
| loading. 13 oz divided by @ 6 sqft is really low. | |
| The TomKat I designed is about 6oz/sf which on the light side. | |
| I once was flying in some wind and if I pointed into the wind | |
| the plane would just hover and gain altitude. I had to turn to | |
| lose altitude and then point back to wind or be blown off over a | |
| neighborhood. This was a 6 minute flight that pretty much ended | |
| where it started. | |
| Thats a problem with light wing loading - you can get blown | |
| around on even the calmest days. | |
| 6oz/sf is Ok if you have the power available to get through the | |
| wind. Otherwise it is a very slow flyer. | |
| Sorry you can't find the cheap foamboard. Regular foamboard is | |
| Ok, but you may want to cut lightening holes in the fuselage and | |
| look for other ways to build light. The planes I designed will | |
| vary between 3-5 oz depending on what material you use. The | |
| radio motor battery add 3.5 oz. | |

| I have been playing around with 2" thick Styrofoam and cutting | |
| it into 5mm thick panels with a hotwire. It cuts great but boy | |
| is it floppy so I tried white wood glue and brown packing paper | |
| to laminate the panels to basically make my own foam board. | |
| This works and makes for a strong but light panel but if you are | |
| not careful they end up bent and twisted when dry. Tried | |
| painting the foam with emulsion thinking this would create a | |
| skin on both sides but this was a failure. | |
| Any ideas anyone as I can get this foam very cheap ?. | |

| @ Lynx | |
| Many thanks for the offer, normally A1 size is the board to get | |
| for most plans I have seen (24" x 33" ish). | |
| I am just trying to do this as cheap as I can that's why I | |
| mentioned the above idea !!, (I love cheap HA HA). | |
| I can get A1 foam for about 35 for 10 sheets but as soon as I | |
| mention that I live on a Island in Scotland they hit me with the | |
| postage (This just sucks !!). | |
| At the end of the day I think I will just end up getting some | |
| anyway, It just hurts my pocket :'( :'( | |

| I get you. I am racking my brain on what you might have and how | |
| you can get around buying the right material. Trying to | |
| laminate enough paper to be strong will not work well, it's just | |
| too heavy. Foam is 97.5% air but quite strong. Put paper on | |
| both sides and it is very strong. | |
| Really the fun of these airplane models is how fast they are to | |
| make from this material and hot melt glue. | |
| Cheers | |

| This video is where I got the inspiration from in which he | |
| constructs a full plane from the cheap white package type epp. | |
| Hopefully it will let you see my idea, This epp I can get | |
| locally from the builders yard for about 10 for 8ft x 4ft x 2". | |

| @ Lynx:- | |
| Just been on your other site and love the "LazyDazy" plans, | |
| Little confused with a few of the parts but I am sure when it is | |
| cut out it will all fall into place. | |
| Looks as though this plane will be very stable in the air and | |
| sloowww. Great work and thanks. :) | |

| Thanks, | |
| It's really pretty simple once you cut the parts out. The plane | |
| is so big that it takes the whole sheet so a lot of diagrams and | |
| templates are set over wings. Download the TomKat plans and | |
| there are four pages of step by step. I'll get the step by step | |
| on its own file soon. | |
| This plane has a very flat smooth glide and should have long | |
| flight times. | |
| Its interesting with its lifting stabilizer. | |
| This evening I made a very simple wing incidence angle tool. | |
| I'll post a video on how to use it. I almost finished up the | |
| Macchi 5 seaplane. Its trickier but fun. All the controls are | |
| in and it works well. Just need to water proof the bottom. | |
| We're all in the kitchen visiting. Wife and daughter are | |
| singing and playing games, me cutting and gluing. TGIF | |
