So this is where questions are asked regarding Lunar Shadow X.
Beware, however, as there may be wild, evil, monstrous spoilers
lurking in this thread!
So, I was wondering… when does this mod take place,
exactly? 2017?

functional Taint to appear in the castle as an explorer truing
to find his own answers?

Only three people are currently known to be alive and Tainted.
They are:
1. Serenity Horton[spoiler=Spoilers for version 4]2. Shinica
Horton (sister)
(She doesn't have the Taint in 2015, but a few weeks after the
events of Lunar Shadow she turns 12, thus awakening her Taint.)
3. Valerie Horton (cousin)
(She is even more spoileriffic than her cousins. Both her eyes
are closed. What do you guys think this means?)[/spoiler]
So, that answers that.

Anyway, Dia asked me to elaborate on that post.
SPOILERS THOUGH. BE WARNED.
[spoiler]Firstly, the information from Lunar Shadow, hidden in
the shelves of Servant Quarters RR.
Notes from myself will, of course, be in red, and do not appear
in the mod.
The whole thing will be in teletype, as well!
[tt]CHAPTER ONE:
The Taint is something that the Horton family from Tirahnys has
had for many long generations.
Those who have the Taint are often referred to as "the Tainted",
because of having the Taint of the Hortons.
When talking about it, one should note that it, and "Tainted",
are proper nouns and not common nouns.
The current Horton family's daughter has the Taint, and marks
the 125[sup]th[/sup] generation of Hortons who have been
Tainted.
There has never been a male Horton born in the past two
millennia who has been Tainted.
However, in that time, all female Hortons have had the Taint.
When married, the couple goes with the last name of the Tainted
person, thus all who has had the Taint are Hortons.
This Taint has been kept a secret until a Tainted's wedding day,
but if their betrothed no longer wants to marry them,
their memory of the Tainted are removed entirely to preserve the
secrets related to the Taint.
CHAPTER TWO:
On, or after, they turn 12, the Tainted lose their left eye - if
it's open, there literally is no eye. (They also can't see with
it, for obvious reasons.)
Thus, they either keep their left eye closed, or cover it with
an eyepatch or a bandage or something.
On, or after, their twentieth birthday, the Tainted regain their
left eye. This is usually a joyous occasion.
The new left eye will be different in color, and the Tainted
gain magical powers other Newerthians dream of.
Both the loss and the regaining of their left eye take place
ONLY when the Tainted are asleep.
It appears that insomniacs will lose their insomnia permanently;
V. Horton (Valkyrie) was an insomniac before her Taint began.
Being poisoned will turn the left eye's color to the previous
one, for as long as the Tainted remains poisoned.
CHAPTER THREE:
Secret research indicates that a Tainted can have their powers
awakened prematurely through a special item. (This item is
currently unknown, by the way.)
However, this may often put a strain on their minds. They may go
insane until they turn twenty as a result.
Those who have their powers awakened in this manner will NOT
regain their left eye prematurely.
If there exists a special bond between the prematurely-awakened
Tainted, and the giver of the special item�
� the Tainted might not even go insane. These type of Tainted
are the most dangerous to anger, for obvious reasons.
That aside, it turns out that those who have the Taint tend to
explode on death. (Well, how else can you explain Serenity
exploding on death?) This is most troubling news.
This makes researching the Taint much harder. It is theorized
that this is one of the Tainted's ways to protect�
� their left eye, even if they do not have one. However, do they
have control over it? That is the question for now.
CHAPTER FOUR:
Having traced their lineage through the magical powers of time
wizards, I have uncovered interesting information.
The Taint never originated inside this world's galaxy. In fact,
it's not even Newerthian in origin!
It appears to have originated from some place called the Realm
of Crystal. I've never heard of it before, however.
It could be that it's another galaxy� but too little information
could be gathered.
I believe this will be the final book for a while - I am headed
to the capital to request permission to find this�
� Realm of Crystal. If I succeed, I hope to write many books
about it, and also where the Taint fits into it all.
On 16 August 2010, sixteen days from now, I hope to have my
answer.

Now, more information. SPOILERS FOR THE FUTURE, OF COURSE.
[spoiler]Serenity, when she turns 20, will have a blue left eye,
and will be able to see things that can't be normally seen (like
invisible stuff), control Water and Cuteness (two Serenthian
elements), and can bring certain cards to life and thus cause
actual harm with them (though it has to follow the official
rules of the games the cards are from).
She will also be able to fly but that's not related to the Taint
or the Valkyrie Wings. (I forgot to add the reason during the
Alexis boss fight. o.o )
Shinica, when she turns 20, will have a green left eye, and will
be able to breathe underwater indefinitely as well as being able
to swim in lava/magma without being harmed. She can also control
Fire and Water (that's rather oxymoronic), and can master spells
much faster than most people her age.
Like Serenity, she will also be able to fly but that's not
related to the Taint or the Valkyrie Wings.
Her Taint awakens a few weeks after the events of Lunar Shadow.
Valerie, however, is about 10 years old, yet she has a double
Taint. How this is possible is yet unknown; if people wonder
about it enough, I'll have her be the protagonist of Lunar
Shadow X. She has the ability to sense others' life force. How
she manages to walk around without bumping into other things, I
don't know yet.[/spoiler]
It's rather complicated, ain't it.

With LS having a green Map System, and LSZ seemingly having a
red one, will LSX have a blue one instead?
(If so, I can see references to Mega Man in both LSZ and LSX's
cases. Zero is red, Mega Man is blue. I think?)

Okay, I seem to have forgotten an important detail:[spoiler=S P
O I L E R S ! ! !]Shinica and Serenity are twins, yet Shinica's
Taint has yet to activate in Lunar Shadow.[/spoiler]
Though, all this means is that[spoiler=M O R E S P O I L E R S
! ! !]Shinica essentially went unTainted for almost a
year.[/spoiler]
