Because I'm a Christian
By: George Date: February 23, 2015, 11:11 pm

How many times have we heard an expression along the lines of,
"They better be glad I'm a Christian"? I've heard this expressed
in several variances, and every time I laugh. It is the funniest
thing when people admit they are fake with such pride. I always
want to say, so the real you is as much a tool as the one your
angry with. Where is the sincerity if the only reason you dont
act a certain way is because your a christian?

I had to think about it for a few moments before I realised the
truth in what you said.
It's a good job I'm a Christian otherwise I wouldn't have
bothered. ;) ::) ;D

10As it is written:
There is no one righteous, not even one;
11there is no one who understands;
there is no one who seeks God.
12All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.
13Their throats are open graves;
their tongues practice deceit.
The poison of vipers is on their lips.
14Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.
15Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16ruin and misery mark their ways,
17and the way of peace they do not know.
18There is no fear of God before their eyes.

[/quote]The world is a better place if people aren't doing bad
things even if their motive may not be the best. It's a good
thing to give to charity even if we give grudgingly. Yes, it
would be better yet to give because it made you happy to do it;
but we should still do the right thing even if we know our
motives may be off.
Still people could avoid saying such a rash thing as "You're
lucky I'm a Christian."
James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and
cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and
bitter?
Why not ask for money? Test him to see if you're lucky he is
a Christian.
Matthew 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that
would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

I expect we've all got it somewhat wrong including (or even
'especially') me.

I agree with what you have all mostly put....but I was looking
at it from a different angle as well.

Like, my first thoughts was yeah I agree with this...then I
thought well actually thinking back I have probably used that
phrase myself...which is why I don't agree lol but seriously....
I was looking at the angle of it could be more a reminder to the
Christian to check their 'self control' and not smack the eejit
in the face when they have stirred your emotions to blood
boiling, and this does happen...I get wound up by people
sometimes, especially the psychotic ones. Just because I am a
Christian doesn't mean my emotions or the earthly side of me
doesn't try to rear its ugly head...like the 'its not I that sin
but sin in me' paraphrase.
This would be the kind of instance, IF I was going to say it I
would. IMO I don't think its wrong in that instance...you never
know, the 'self control' might rub off on the eejit.

Brad I actually thought the Scripture you posted was a good one
for this topic, in my mind anyway. I think depending on the
intent and context of the person using the phrase would depend I
think on whether it applied though.

I knew that....it was just my oblique way of saying that I
couldn't see the relevance (and I expect you knew that ;)).
