I've wondered for years how the UK has kept its head above water
with its staggering debt. I think the USA is in bad shape,
perhaps also on a crash course; but the Europeans are closer to
crashing, and the UK is in such debt, I don't see how they can
pull themselves out. The numbers say as much.

Neil, I first thought this was interesting...I had a few tries
at it. I was on there for about 40 mins..it took me a while
until the penny dropped , that the real push here is not to
"help" but to get us to buy the magazine! Dah, it took me a
while.
I am sure that much that he says is true...probably most of it.
But , bottom line, if God doesn't keep us through those rough
days ahead then we are of all men most miserable. Only Him.
He says that we can "do things" to head off personal crisis, I
doubt it myself. So many people have come up with so many "good
ideas and plans"...none of which include The Secret Place of The
Most High. ;)
God Grace be upon us all! ✟

The truth seems to be that the UK government debt -- just the
debt of the government -- is fast approaching the gross national
product. It's at about 85% in 2011 and still rising.

Right now interest are rather low, relatively speaking; but once
people start wondering, they no longer want to lend at low
interest rates. They want higher rates.
The BBC said (November 2011) total debt in the UK was about
500% of GNP.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15820601
According to the consulting firm, by the end of March this year,
the aggregate indebtedness of the UK - that's the sum of
household debts, company debts, government debts and bank debts
- had risen to 492% of GDP, or almost five times the value of
everything we produce in a single year.
If interest rates go up, just paying the interest would be a
crushing blow. Just imagine if interest rates were at 20%.
It would take every penny earned in the UK to pay the interest
on the debt, leaving nothing to spend on anything else. Our
governments have intervened in the markets, acting to keep
interest rates low while they continued to rack up debt; but can
they do it forever?
Speaking of the BBC, I heard a story this morning about British
exports to non-European markets. The people talking seemed
confident this was going to continue. It won't. It can't.
As countries like China and India have increases in their
standard of living, they will consume more and more energy. The
price of oil has to go up. When the price of oil goes up, the
cost of everything that gets shipped goes up. It won't make
sense to build stuff in one country and send them half way round
the globe. It will be cheaper to build stuff where people are
going to buy it. That also goes for food.
It's a global crisis waiting to happen.

^ I imagine too that the laws on euthanasia will change in the
UK. Think of how much money the government would save on
pensions and health care. Money may put the pressure on
Parliament to make it legal. From the Guardian
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2004/sep/19/health.healthandwellbeing1,<br
/>2004:
'What this says to me is that we know these practices are going
on, but they are completely unregulated. We don't know how many
people are volunteers or non-volunteers, and maybe because of
that the law ought to be changed so that people can give
voluntary consent, which will give them more protection.'
An ageing population has meant that an increasing number of
doctors are taking private decisions to aid the early demise of
terminally ill patients, usually by increasing drug doses.

I just better not get sick then, I don't want some zealous
doctor deciding it is time I check out just because I have a
cold at my age and they can not afford the menthol tissues.

[/quote]Think of all the CA$H they could save by saying your
cold was not worth spending money on and that you would be
better off dead.
I was reading the new the other day and was flabbergasted that
two twins in Belgium decided they'd rather be dead than be
blind.

I wonder if the next step will be to put pressure on old people
not be a burden on society? Will governments start advising
old people to choose suicide over medical treatment?
