New permission

I just changed the permissions. Most members can now choose to
announce topics when they post new topics. We have several
members who seldom post. Perhaps the site bores them? So if
you post a topic you think may interest these people who seldom
post, you can click on the "announce topic" box.

It's kind of strange. I see some members sign in but don't post
anything. Mayhap that they change their minds about it
regularly.
Ya, it could be that they find stuff here boring or
uninteresting.
Maybe they feel the site's of the devil! But where's the tongues
and woes prayed all over it?
Life happens too. Some lose faith with what all goes on, etc.
Some just move on for whatever reasons.
Speculating, of course.

P,
It's hard for me to grasp when someone thinks of me as dangerous
since I think of myself as mostly harmless. I hope I'm boring
people not offending them. I realize though that some may not
like my scoffing at false prophets; but if Elijah could do it, I
figure it can't be that bad. If they are the true prophets,
they could always call fire down on the people who scoff at
them.

That's right, Kerry ^.
I wouldn't call you boring.
Ya, Jesus said if you don't believe my words, believe my works.
These so-called prophets, powerless by Jesus' works.

I think, para, that there is more going on here than what is
happening on Love God Only. There has been a marked decline of
participation in some highly popular internet forums. These
forums include True2Ourselves (which no longer exists) and
TheologyOnLine. Many have been alienated by the politics and
the abusive nature of the posting by Alt Right members.
We are in a sociological change in the West. For many in
America and in the Commonwealth, that had supported such leaders
as Trump and Boris Johnson, who had been what has been described
as conservative Christians, have been quietly losing their
religious faith. We can speak of social delusions as a way of
describing this loss of faith, when that change involves
unreality. We can also speak of racism and White supremacy
which destroys morality and Christian teaching.
How can people talk to one another in a society that is involved
in culture wars? If one is at war with others, how can one talk
to those others being warred against? How can supposed
Christians evangelize when they've lost their faith? All of the
churches, now, are experiencing declining memberships.
It seems that when people reject the Word, they have no place in
their lives for other words as well. We, in the West, are now a
culture in transition.

Ya, I think that you're right about some placing personal
animosities above whatever faith (or none) they might have.
I think that the problem is the personalization of concepts - -
some have a hard time separating a person's good or bad ideas
from the person so that they're seen as either good or bad
accordingly. Instead of just disliking or hating an idea, the
person is disliked or hated. If they like their ideas, they like
the person which might not necessarily be the whole person, good
or bad since they might not know everything about them.
funny how central an idea "gnosticism" seems to be in
the Bible; only in code? "Tree of knowledge," "manna," etc. Plus
i guess the very definition of Gnostic has changed, or at least
that of Agnostic? Anyway, a recent read through a thorough
explanation of "dunning-kruger" kinda reminded me how
suggestible we tend to be, and by "we" i mean everyone. When did
being right about everything all the time become mandatory, i
wonder

Right all the time about everything mandatory?
When Jesus said Be perfect as God is perfect, and to judge
rightly.
I suppose one can try at least.
The other day I was going through an intersection and
wasn't paying attention and went through a red light. Another
driver, more alert than I, beeped at me. What happened?
If there is a red light there, I am placing myself at risk if
my mind isn't aware of it, isn't aware of what other people are
seeing and using as signals so we will all be safe. In short, I
was wrong and placed my life in danger as well as the lives of
others. By not being alert, I was not loving myself or others.
The person who beeped at me, bringing me back to reality, did me
a favor. He was aware and right -- about the red light and
about me failing to stop. So while my being wrong didn't kill
me or anyone else, I have alert and responsible people to thank
when I fail to be right about things. They are practicing being
their neighbor's keeper.
It may not be mandatory to be right about everything, but I
think it's desirable to find where we're wrong so we can change
our minds and be right. I believe God allows us to choose, but
that He wants us to choose correctly so we are choosing life,
and if we chose wrong in the past that He wants us to learn from
our mistakes so we can be right.
Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day
against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing
and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed
may live:
Dunning-Kruger?
I failed as a Christian to obey the Golden Rule when I ran the
red light; and the way this world is set up, my decisions can
impact others and theirs can impact me. "In all things give
thanks," Paul wrote -- and I thanked God that the world is set
up in a way that my fellow humans can inform me when I'm not
alert and wrong about things. What have I gained if I think I'm
smarter than I actually am? If I'm deluded, I remain deluded.
On the other hand, I can gain a lot by looking for flaws in
myself so I can correct them.
I think it's generally true that people with low ability
overestimate themselves. I also think that helps explain why
they have low abilities. Vanity tells them they're already
superior and they want to believe it. Pride can make people
stupid. Hey, it's their choice. They really aren't stupid,
just acting as if they are.
We may be lucky that while God would like us to achieve
perfection in this world, He doesn't demand it; but every
detail we can iron out that puts us closer to perfection pleases
Him and also helps us.
ha well, my argument there would be that that might
engender your personalization of concepts, which usually goes
by another name, but I thought was pretty well put :)
