Wayne Rooney coming to America? Maybe.
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44069924
Wayne Rooney has agreed a deal in principle that could see him
leave Everton for Major League Soccer side DC United this summer
in a 12.5m deal.
Rooney's representatives have been in the US to negotiate terms
and the former England skipper is willing to leave the Premier
League club.
Nothing has been signed yet and uncertainty over Everton boss
Sam Allardyce's position means the forward, 32, could stay at
Goodison Park.
Rooney re-joined Everton in July 2017.
He spent 13 seasons at Manchester United after signing from
Everton as an 18-year-old, becoming their record goalscorer and
winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League.
It is understood Rooney has been offered a contract until the
end of the 2020 MLS season. The US transfer window does not open
until July.
Earlier this week, Allardyce said Rooney wants to stay and
dismissed suggestions England's record goalscorer is frustrated
with his role.
"It would have to be massive for him to want leave Everton," the
former England manager told Talksport. "I've not had a problem
from day one with Wayne (but) the Wayne Rooney saga continues on
doesn't it?"

A new stadium for DC United. They probably want to spend some
money for some names to attract more fans. Rooney's Man U's top
scorer and also beloved at Everton for having returned to the
club after having started there. They probably don't want to see
him go but they want to get back into Europe. I'm not sure Sam
Allardyce can get them there (8th place). This was once a great
Liverpool club. If Rooney does go to DC, he'll only improve the
football there.

I just don't know. The rumours are strong and persist. The same
with Neymar and Real. I understand that the EPL has a strong
following in the USA. When MLS sides start winning titles
without elder Europeans in them, then I think the situation will
change. Clubs like Atlanta United are changing the model by
looking for youthful talent from South America to help them make
a run at the title instead of the elder statesmen from UEFA.

Wayne Rooney signs with DC United.
What? No Hollywood or Florida palms? Still, southern enough I
guess for a Liverpool and Manchester lad. No more wet and windy
nights at Stoke?

His first game will probably be against Vancouver.

Major League Soccer has added another high profile name, as
Wayne Rooneys transfer to DC United was announced on Thursday.
The EPL legend and former England captain signed a 2.5-year
designated player contract, with a club option for a third year,
reportedly worth $13 million per season. Rooney is expected to
make his debut against the Vancouver Whitecaps on July 14 in
Washington. That will also be the first time the Whitecaps play
former goalkeeper David Ousted, who signed with DC in the
offseason.

[/quote]Well, they opened the new stadium!
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mls/dc-united-reporter-lindsay-simpson-hit-in-…
The D.C. United played the first game at the brand-new Audi
Field on Saturday night, and its clear that the stadium
shouldnt have opened yet.
Clay Adams reported before the game that a chunk of metal fell
on a member of the broadcast team.
And Erin Hawksworth of ABC-7 (D.C. affiliate) later reported
that D.C. sideline reporter Lindsay Simpson was hit by a railing
and being treated by medics. Hawksworth included photos of the
railing:
According to ESPNs Jeff Carlisle, a D.C. United spokesperson
confirmed that Simpson was hit in the head by an object and
wouldnt be a part of the broadcast.
And MLS reporter Pablo Maurer reported that there were a couple
of incidents of the railing failing at the stadium.
So theyve had a couple of incidents here at the stadium where
sections of railing have fallen - in one incident someone got
struck by falling debris. Theyve resorted to duct tape as a
temp fix.
So, this is bad. The D.C. United organization and the Audi Field
crew have some questions to answer about how this facility was
ruled safe for use.
And Rooney got to play.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/soccer/rooney-makes-mls-debut-as-sub-in-dc-uni…
Even though Wayne Rooney wasn't in from the start, the English
national team's all-time leading scorer was instrumental in
finishing things off in D.C. United's first true home game of
the season.
Rooney made his Major League Soccer debut Saturday as a
second-half substitute and assisted on the third goal in D.C.
United's 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps in the first
game played at Audi Field.
"Once Wayne came on I thought things really changed for the
better," D.C. United coach Ben Olsen said.
Rooney, who entered the game in the 58th minute with D.C. United
leading 1-0, provided the assist on Paul Arriola's second goal
of the game in the 80th minute with a simple square pass 30
yards from the goal.
Earlier Rooney was involved in the buildup to United's second
goal in the 69th minute, also from Arriola.
"It's a big night -- my debut in MLS, my debut for D.C. United
and a win so I'm delighted," Rooney said.

Morale seems to be good, according to this story.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mls/wayne-rooney-named-dc-united-captain-after…
D.C. United, without a captain through the start of the MLS
season, have handed the armband to ex-England skipper Wayne
Rooney.
Rooney joined D.C. earlier this month and has featured in just
three games so far for the Maryland franchise. However,
long-serving coach Ben Olsen explained the positive impact the
32-year-old has had on the team both on and off the pitch in his
first few weeks in the United States.
"Wayne has the respect of the guys, not only from his past but
also the way he has been the last few weeks being here," Olsen
told the Washington Post's Steven Goff. "We've had some good
discussions on his leadership role, and I think he will embrace
it and do a good job with it.
"It was important for us to see how Wayne interacted with the
team over the last couple weeks. In some ways, it (the new
captain) was always going to be Wayne."

Coach: Tata Martino (Atlanta United)
I'll probably watch because I dig Mercedes-Benz Stadium and
Atlanta United (a great soccer town with super fans) but it's
essentially a showcase to sell the game to a wider North
American audience if possible.
Among the 26 names on Martino's roster, 17 different
nationalities are represented with a near equal distribution
among CONMEBOL, CONCACAF and UEFA nations, which further
reflects the diversity seen in MLS.
"To see not only so many different teams represented but also
nations from North America, South America and Europe, it will be
a nice celebration for the league," Martino said.:
