About time. They fly under the radar but for their World Cup and
Olympics. Here you go lovers of the global game. Watch the women
footballers play. They're amazing:

Well, we wouldn't have women's soccer at all if the issue is pay
equity but here we have it. I suppose it mirrors societies. The
various national teams are free to boycott the proposed league
until their respective FA's give equal pay or participate and
keep trying to change minds with claims and performances. I
think that women will want to play in the meantime since the
league matches will count for coefficients which in turn count
for World Cup seedings.

You go . . . . . lady :).
The Most Powerful Women In International Sports 2018
The inaugural list of the Most Powerful Women in International
Sports includes disruptors of soccers centuries-old boys club,
C-Suite executives leading multinational sports organizations,
and athletes demanding the gender pay gap be closed once and for
all.
The top spot belongs to Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura of Senegal,
the first female secretary general of FIFA, soccer's
international organizing body, in charge of the worlds most
popular sport and the World Cup. Appointed in 2016, after her
predecessor was removed amid an ethics investigation, Samoura,
the second-most-powerful person in world soccer, behind FIFA
president Gianni Infantino, leads the commercial and operational
sides of the organization. FIFA expects its 2015-18 budgeted
revenue, which includes television broadcasting rights,
marketing rights and licensing rights, to exceed $5.6 billion.:

There is a report that FIFA plans to launch a global women's
league that will begin play as early as 2019. What can you say
about this development? Are the plans in line with the
initiative of increasing the number of female players to 60
million by 2026?
Womens football has been recognized as the biggest growth
opportunity for FIFA and football both on and off the pitch.
But there is still a lack of opportunities. Because as you know,
the mens World Cup is funding all of our activities within
FIFA, including the non-football-related events. People want to
address the issues of this lack of opportunities and try to find
a solution that will drive development for the 211 member
associations. We have initiated an extensive consultation
process. And hopefully, by the end of this year, at the October
FIFA Council meeting, we will come up with a proposal on where
we are going to be the next year in terms of womens
development, but also in terms of promoting the highest level of
competition for women, including the possibility of having a
world league one day.

I think the "Fatma" is pronounced "Fatima". Now to get Oprah
involved . . . would really make Oprah . . . .
the wind . . . . beneath . . . . . my wings
:D :P.

The USWNT plays Mexico in another friendly Sunday on the regular
FOX network at 1:30 pm. I'll probably be watching. They played
them just few days ago and here are the hilites with FC
Barcelona fan :) Alex Morgan getting a brace:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0gzXW_1orw
Morgan is a real greyhound at the pace by which she makes her
runs. She's like the Gareth Bale of women's football. Her
penalty-kick was perfectly taken - - right into the corner,
low.
The women are well worth watching too.

Poor Mexico. 10 goals scored by the USWNT in two matches against
them.
Lloyd scores her 100th international goal. Morgan a brace again.
Best goal scored by Pugh early on.
Average age of the USWNT: 25
Rapinoe (33 years old) the best player out there. Plays like a
10. Sets up everything. 4 assists, one goal in today's match.

Congratulations to Ada Hegerberg for winning the first ever
Ballon d'Or for women this year. The Norway National Team Player
plays as a striker for the Division 1 Fminine club Olympique
Lyonnais in France.
Hegerberg was one of seven players from the all-conquering Lyon
side to feature among the 15 nominees.
She was the leading scorer with 15 goals as the French side won
the Champions League for the third year running.
The Ballon d'Or has been awarded to a men's player by France
Football every year since 1956, but this is the first year there
has been a women's award.
The list of nominees is compiled by the editorial staff of the
French magazine.
From 2010 to 2015 it merged with Fifa's awards, but the world
governing body set up its own awards again in 2016.
"I want to say thanks to my team-mates because this would not
have been possible without them, my coach or our president
Jean-Michel Aulas," Hegerberg said at the ceremony in Paris.
"I also want to thank France Football. This is a huge step for
women's football.":

The rest:
2. Pernille Harder (Wolfsburg and Denmark)
3. Dzsenifer Maroszan (Lyon and Germany)
4. Marta (Orlando and Brazil)
5. Sam Kerr (Perth and Australia)
6. Lucy Bronze (Lyon and England)
7. Amandine Henry and Wendie Renard (both Lyon and France)
9. Megan Rapinoe (Seattle and USA)
10. Lindsay Horan (Portland and USA):

Here's some news that may show the lack of respect for women.
Some facts are already clear. There was no ambulance waiting
to go if needed; and there was not enough oxygen on site. The
team she was on didn't seem to have its own oxygen so they got
some from the other team.
Then the game got canceled.
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jan/13/manchester-united-women-game-a…
An ambulance was called to Oakwood, in south-east London, but it
did not arrive for around 30 minutes, during which time the
defender received lengthy treatment on the pitch from both sets
of medical staff.
It is believed the game was abandoned after all the emergency
oxygen had been used, it being a requirement to have a supply on
site during a game.
FA WSL and Womens Championship Competition Rules state: Clubs
shall ensure that emergency sports first aid equipment is
present and in full working order at each Competition Match.
Such equipment to include as a minimum a spinal board, cervical
collar, fracture splints, crutches, stretchers, oxygen and a
defibrillator.
An FA spokesperson said: Everyone at the FA wishes Charlotte
Kerr a full and speedy recovery following an injury during the
match today between Charlton Athletic Women and Manchester
United Women. The FA Womens Championship has thorough matchday
medical requirements and we are currently in communication with
both clubs to understand more about the incident and will await
the referees report.
