American Wrestling Team Banned from Iran?

The US wrestling team won't be able to compete in this month's
Freestyle World Cup in Iran because visas were denied to its
members, the Iranian semiofficial Tasnim News Agency said
Friday.
Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Bahram Ghasemi
said a special committee reviewed the case Friday and
"eventually the visit by the USA freestyle wrestling team was
opposed," according to the agency.
The denial comes after Iran announced it would take "reciprocal
measures" toward US citizens following President Donald Trump's
order last week banning entry to nationals from seven
Muslim-majority countries, including Iran, to the United States.
Ghasemi said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was "obliged
inevitably to oppose the US wrestling team's travel to Iran" in
the wake of Trump's policies, according to the semiofficial FARS
news agency.
The US wrestling team has been in Iran for tournaments 15 times
since the Iranian Revolution, and the sport's governing body
said Monday it planned to send a delegation to the Freestyle
World Cup on February 16-17 in Kermanshah, Iran.
Team USA Wrestling said Friday it had not been officially
notified its wrestlers would be denied entry into Iran.
"If these reports are true, USA Wrestling is extremely
disappointed about this," the organization said in a statement.
"Wrestling is about competition and goodwill through sport, and
is no place for politics."
The move also comes as the Trump administration enacted new
sanctions Friday on Iran after the country's test launch of a
ballistic missile last weekend.

Slavemasters;
What might have been for both countries in an Olympiad! Whoever
restricts, at least the other can say, we expected and were
prepared to pretzalize you in Graeco-Roman, olive-oiled,
man-muscle mode anytime . . . . What?!!
Salutations,
Spartacus,
Welted Rower #34,
Galley 8,
SS Abyss,
Aeolian Sea,
Four Corners,
God's Creation
*Disclaimer for the prurient - - I actually saw this I kid you
not in a modern day sort of mid-eastern country but I'm not sure
exactly what kind of oil went down the front of the wrestler's
pant. So true.

How about some of that praised mid-eastern hospitality? Why not
let the Americans in and treat them oh so very well. When you
employ the same thing you detest, you have lost the high ground
if indeed it was so.

I just checked at the Iranian site. Canada and the UK are also
on their list.
https://www.letsgoiran.com/iran-visa/visa-faq
Visas for US, UK and Canadian passport holders are subject to
particular regulations.
At present the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) does
not allow US, UK and Canadian passport holders to travel to
Iran independently. They are required to travel on escorted
tours; either as part of a tour group, or on a tailor-made
individual tour.
Due to these requirements we recommend that you make your travel
arrangements at least 10 weeks in advance of your planned travel
date.
But then there is this too:
http://www.businessinsider.com/r-americans-with-iran-visas-welcome-to-enter-cou…
Americans who already hold Iranian visas can enter the country,
Iran's foreign minister said on Sunday, even though Tehran has
vowed to respond in kind to a U.S. ban on visitors from Iran and
six other Muslim countries ordered by President Donald Trump.
"Unlike the U.S., our decision is not retroactive. All with
valid Iranian visa will be gladly welcomed," Mohammad Javad
Zarif said on Twitter.
And now the latest:
http://www.rferl.org/a/iran-visas-us-wrestling-team/28280071.html
Iran will issue visas for a U.S. wrestling team to attend the
February 16-17 Freestyle World Cup competition, the Islamic
Republic News Agency reports, reversing a decision announced on
February 3 that banned visas for the team in response to an
executive order by U.S. President Donald Trump banning visas for
Iranians.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said in a Telegram
message that the visas would be issued for the U.S. team partly
because of a decision by a U.S. federal judge to block the
executive order.
