Tim Tebow
By: Kerry Date: August 31, 2016, 11:19 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Tim Tebow is still working hard to get on a baseball team. From
CBS -- St Louis
http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2016/08/30/determined-to-chase-dream-tebow-shows-po…
The 29-year-old aspiring outfielder went through drills
at the University of Southern Californias Dedeaux Field for
over an hour, confidently chasing a dream deferred for 12 years.
Declaring his football career essentially over, Tebow insists he
is serious about becoming more than a baseball curiosity.
The goal would be to have a career in the big leagues, Tebow
said. I just want to be someone to pursue what I believe in,
what Im passionate about. A lot of people will say, `But what
if you fail? What if you dont make it? Guess what? I dont
have to live with regret. I did everything I could. I pushed it.
I would rather be someone that could live with peace and no
regret than what-if, or being scared.
Tebows heavily muscled, 255-pound physique and 6.70-ish time in
the 60-yard dash were impressive to the scouts. He also showed
undeniable hitting ability with a series of line drives and long
homers during batting practice.
But Tebow also showed he still needs baseball seasoning when he
faced live pitching from former big-leaguers David Aardsma and
Chad Smith, who repeatedly fooled him with off-speed pitches.
Tebow could only grin in frustration after he fanned on a series
of changeups and breaking balls.
There is 100 percent nerves, no question about it, Tebow said.
When youre at the combine or a pro day, you have your body of
work for four years, everything that you did, so its not just
that one day. Here, you might have seen me when I was 17, but
you havent seen me since. A lot goes into it, so youd better
show something. A lot of nerves, a lot of pressure, for sure.
Tebow hasnt played baseball regularly since his junior year at
Nease High School in Ponte Vedra, Florida. He left early to
enroll at Florida, beginning a fabled college football career
that led to the 2007 Heisman and two national titles for the
Gators.
What did the scouts think? From USA Today
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2016/08/30/tim-tebow-baseball-tryout-s…
There were a lot of opinions, too, after the showcase
that gave scouts a chance to evaluate Tebows speed, throwing
arm, defensive skill and hitting ability.
It was a complete waste of time, said an American League
scout, who spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity
because he was not authorized to speak publicly about his
assessment. It was like watching an actor trying to portray a
baseball player.
He tried. He tried. Thats the best I can say. He is crazy
strong, and could run well in one direction, but thats it. He
only had one good throw of all his throws.
A National League scout saw things more favorably.
Better than I expected, to be honest," he said of the 6-3,
260-pound Tebow. That's a big dude, for as fast as he can run.
The power was impressive, but I wish he could have translated it
maybe a little better (against live pitching).
He did run rather fast for an ex-football player, getting ranked
55 out of 100 --his best ranking of the categories.
The article also answered the question I had in my mind about
how many people were both football and baseball players. There
have been seven people who played both.

This from The Daily Caller
New York Mets prospect and former NFL quarterback Tim
Tebow reportedly saved a fans life from a seizure Tuesday.
The unnamed fan had a seizure while the Heisman winner was
signing autographs, but the seizure stopped after Tebow placed
his hands on the fan and prayed, according to ABC15 reporter
Kari Van Horn.
This isnt the first time the University of Florida phenom has
used prayers to save a life. He previously prayed

/>for an ill man on a plane and the man miraculously
recovered.
Faith can move mountains and healing does occur in the Christian
world. I just hope he or someone else didn't set this up in
advance to promote him.

^ The man has now been identified and interviewed.
The man having a seizure at a minor league baseball game
on Tuesday who was comforted by miracle worker Tim Tebow said
he still had the wherewithal to needle the former University of
Florida star.
Brandon Berry said one of the few things he remembers is telling
Tebow that he cheered for Floridas SEC rival, the University of
Georgia Bulldogs.
Youre a Bulldog? Youre kidding me! Tebow said. Dont even
know how to respond to that.
The Mets prospect, former NFL quarterback and forthright
Christian was signing autographs after the Arizona Fall League
game in Scottsdale, when Berry, 30, collapsed.
I just remember just being very disoriented, Berry told The
Associated Press from his home in nearby Avondale after being
released from a hospital. Then I saw Tim.
Tebow remained with Berry for about 15 minutes before paramedics
arrived. Tebow at one point knelt beside Berry, put his hand on
the fans leg and prayed. Tebow kept telling Berry everything
was going to be OK.
Theyre going to take good care of you buddy, Tebow said to
Berry of paramedics tending to him. God bless you buddy.
An amazing moment, said fan Daniel Kelly, who witnessed the
incident. It was a miracle moment that happened there.
Kelly said Berry appeared to be unconscious for about 30 seconds
during the episode.
Hes just shaking violently, said Kelly, celebrating his 43rd
birthday at the game with his wife Samantha. Were like, Get a
paramedic! Get a paramedic!
Berry said he attended Tuesdays game, played in 100-degree
heat, so he could get a look at the media spectacle surrounding
Tebows bid shine in a new sport.
Like seeing somebody like (former Atlanta Braves star) Chipper
Jones when I grew up watching (baseball), said Berry,
originally from Hayesville, North Carolina.
Berry said hes suffered seizures since 2013 and was diagnosed
with a pituitary tumor in January.
I'm not sure it was a miracle; if we read later that all his
seizures stopped and his doctor said the tumor was gone, that
would really be something. It looks to me as if Tebow
responded to a real situation -- and spent 15 minutes with him
out of kindness. I got a chuckle about the banter about the
man being a Bulldog fan.

This is interesting.
http://www.foxsports.com/baseball/story/tim-tebow-boosts-minor-league-baseball-…
Helped by New York Mets outfielder Tim Tebow, attendance
increased by 12.4 percent this year in the Florida State League
and by 2.1 percent in the South Atlantic League.
The National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues said
Monday that the presence of the former NFL quarterback and
Heisman Trophy winner led to an increase of over 225,000 fans in
the two Class A leagues.
Minor league baseball attendance rose by about 500,000 this
year, still below 2015s level and its fifth-highest total.

This is the effect of "face", a famous, known quantity bringing
interest to a sport.
This is what US soccer needs - - a face, someone famous of
theirs that's their poster-boy for the sport. For soccer fans
and neutrals in the US, it's Donovan, Dempsey, and others. Many
will add Pulisic. Problem is Pulisic plays in Germany. Most
Americans don't see him play week in and week out. Perhaps the
World Cup will produce a MLS star for the US who lots will see
in the USA. He then can bring it on home.
