Beginner with questions

Greetings! My father stored a Lionel "O" gauge train set in my
attic for over 25 years, which has not been used in over 40
years. I wish to try to set it up now. There are no instructions
with the set, are any available online or in this forum? I was
able to lay track out in a double loop with two 022 switches. My
recollection was the ZW transformer powered each loop separately
for two trains. I have checked for continuity between the rails
and there is continuity between the inner and outer rails but
not with the middle rail. So my question what is the point of
the insulating pins in the switches if they are only in the
inner rail? It would make more sense to me if they were in the
middle rail but welcome an explanation. The next question is how
to attach wiring to the track, specifically what are lock ons? I
have two special tracks with electrical screw posts and 5 rails
with a control switch presumably to unload logs from a car on
one. Are these lock ons? Tried to upload photo but upload
folder full. The box says remote control track set. Thank you in
advance. I did try searching but could not find answer to my
question.

sorry was not able to figure out how to edit above post. I found
an instruction manual online and lock ons in another box. I took
out the center pin at the switches to isolate the two loops. I
replaced with a toothpick in the center rail although I do not
think it is doing anything but maybe will help keep rails
aligned. I still do not understand purpose of fiber pins in
switches on ground rails on one side only.
