Wyoming Winds

"Here you are dear, make sure you drink enough water with
these." A smile and a pat on the shoulder.
"Thanks Mom. Where's Jackson at? He said he was bringing my iPad
up." Mother shook her head, unsure and smiled.
"I'll find him, or I'll bring it up for you."
Not a moment later, a tall brunette opened the door with a pink
leather cased tablet.
"Here Ave." He smiled and then looked to mother. "Can I go out
for a few hours? There's a tourney down at the arcade and I
wanted to stop in a see the games." He headed back to the door,
weaving around a couple of unpacked boxes. Mother sighed and
looked at her tiny wrist watch.
"Alright, but come straight home afterward, okay? Avery starts
classes early in the morning and I need you to take care of
those boxes in the living room tonight." Jackson looked at his
twin and smiled.
"Not a problem Mom. I'll get them taken care of." Avery smiled
back at him and flipped open the cover of her iPad. Mother
nodded and looked between them both, settling on Avery.
"Is there anything else I can get you? Today's been a rough day,
I just want to make sure you're comfortable." Avery looked up at
Jackson as he left the room and then to her mother.
"No mom, I'm fine. I'm just dizzy, that's all. I'll be okay."
She smiled and watched her mother take a deep breath, then she
leaned down and kissed Avery's forehead before she left the
room. Avery settled back in her pillows and pulled up Facebook,
looking up the local high school that her brother was able to
attend and had been for two days. She looked through the
pictures of the kids who attended and started studying them a
bit. She wanted to know their faces as if she were in class with
them. And she wished she could be in class with them, but for
now she would settle for online homeschooling, and Saturday
morning tutoring sessions from one of the local high school
kids.

"Honiahaka, come on already. I wanna go into the city, I'm dying
for a soda."
"I've told you... HAKA. HA-KA. Not all of us have normal
sounding names, Asha..." Haka grumbled as his younger cousin
walked in and leaned against his door. Asha shrugged.
"Not my fault... now get up, you promised to take me since I
covered for your ass the other night," she said, pushing at his
bed. He sighed and sat up, running a hand through his hair.
"Fine, fine... let's go..."

Avery's eyes started to grow lazy, closing to signal her eminent
sleep. She yawned and closed her tablet, setting it aside and
curling into her pillows. 'It will pass...' she told herself and
pulled her blanket over her head.
Jackson rode his back to the arcade, skid to a stop at the bike
rack and got off. He looked around at the few others who were
attending as he locked up his bike and dusted himself off. He
headed for the doors and let himself in, taking in the sight of
all the gaming machines. "Wow..." he whispered. He hadn't seen
an arcade like this, back in Newark they didn't have arcades,
all the kids there just sat back and played their xboxes and
playstations. Jackson loved the retro feel of a good old gaming
box.

"Come on, grandfather said we can use the truck!" Asha said and
walked out. She went and got into the dusty, beat up truck that
their grandfather used to get around the reservation. Both of
them could drive, but when it came to going off-res, she'd
rather Haka drive. Within moments, Haka was outside as well and
climbing in the driver's seat.
"So where am I taking you?" He asked, starting the truck.
"Arcade. Figured it would be fun," she replied, stretching as he
started to drive. He shrugged but nodded, knowing there would be
good food there too. After an hour of travel, they pulled into
the parking lot and went inside.

Jackson lingered among the other players in the room. He'd stop
and watch one, before heading over to another and watch them. It
was sort of busy, nothing that stopped him from playing, but
enough to keep him interested in what else was going on around
him. Finally, he headed over to a machine with a giant dance pad
attached to it. He'd heard of this game before, but he never
played it. He bit his lip and watched the demo for a time.

Haka pulled his long hair into a messy bun, bangs falling in his
eyes as he went to go get them food. Asha meanwhile fished
around in her pockets, digging out a couple quarters, and went
over to Street Fighter IV which was close to the DDR machine.
Popping the coins into the slot, she selected Sakura and started
to play.

Jackson moved around the back bar and onto the pad, dropping a
game of quarters in. The game burst to life, "DANCE DANCE
REVOLUTION!" and then some japanese style music started playing.
"Choose your character!" the game yelled as Jackson sifted
through the anime toons. He picked one, then scrolled through
the list of songs, and difficulties. Finally he landed on a song
that started shouting out through the speakers. "Y-M-C-A!" The
game counted him down and then he started to move on the pad
slowly.
"Oh jeez..." he chuckled, his feet nearly pounding on the
arrows.

Asha glanced over at the guy playing DDR clumsily. She probably
wasn't any better, but she tried not to laugh. Haka came up
behind her.
"I got us nachos, cheese fries, pizza, and some sodas," he said.
She groaned in appreciation.
"You're my favorite cousin ever." She grinned.
"I'm your ONLY cousin..." He sighed.

Jackson kept going, seeming to give up less than halfway through
the song. Finally, though, when it ended, he stomped on the
final arrows, holding it down and taking a deep breath.
"I can't imagine what this would be like if it were any
harder..." he grumbled, shaking his head and stepping off, his
gaze finding itself on the pair of Rez Wolves that were standing
close by.

"Come on, lets sit," Haka sighed, morning to a table. Asha
nodded, letting her character die in order to stuff her face.
When she noticed the DDR guy looking at them, she gave a tight
smile.
