New Age War
By: rclemens86 Date: January 6, 2016, 10:21 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
[center]War has been a part of the human race for eons, and will
forever be a part of civilization no matter the race.
In a distant future, the technological age has advanced warfare
to an interstellar capability. Earth, or Sol as many of the new
Aliens call it, is still the home of humanity. Since galactic
warfare has begun, many other races have relocated to the planet
to seek refuge from the horrible conditions other planets have
endured during the past few centuries. While Humanity still
reigns, Xefarians, a strick, militarized race, and few
Rogarians, a peaceful, yet very tech capable race have also
found sanctuary on the planet as well. There are several other
races who have joined the coalition to stop the wars, but for
our story we'll maintain that these are some of the most
important races as they are the primary races who are highly
equipped for the damages of war.
Earth holds one of the highest, and prestigious military
academies in the Sol System. Second comes the academy on Mars
which mostly maintains their ability to create the most advanced
atomic weapons. From the bullets of their very guns, to the
bombs like that dropped in the very old cold war era of the
20th.
Earth's fleet is led by the S.S. Grunswick, a galactic war ship,
fully equipped with the latest technology. Cloaking devices are
able to keep it's location hidden from some of even the most
advanced warships in the galaxy. She's been armored with a
tri-titanium steel, capable of withstanding gun ship fire to a
rather great extent. Gatling laser weapons and high intensity
lead and steel canons make up her offensive systems. She's a
highly capable ship and is highly recognized by many of the
terminus fleets as the 'commander' ship. Led by Captain Garrison

she is in the most capable hands and this is the story of her
crew.
Glossary:
Terminus System: The region of the galaxy, also known to
humanity as the Solar System. It's separated into two halves,
the inner Terminus system, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, and
the Outer Terminus system, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and
Pluto. The two are separated by an asteroid belt that divides
them into the two systems.
More to come as the story progresses.
Also part of Garrison's crew:
Commander M'Stefia Nolang

/>Gunner and Combat specialist. Stef, as most of the crew calls
her, is the commander of tactics and space warfare on the
warship. She has also become the newest instructor of weaponry
and has already recruited many of her students aboard the S.S.
Grunswick as her enlisted students as determined by their
superior classroom skills.

or
his race, the Kyrathians) age of 127. He joined the S.S.
Grunswick recently, after being picked up from what was supposed
to be a rescue mission. It had ended up being a mass funeral,
save for Kael and another young soul.

to Kael, and then the crew of the Grunswick. Half-human and
half-Ardereian, she is the last of her race that is known at the
moment. Excellent with tech and medicine, she's slowly proving
to be of use.

Garrison sorted through a pile of papers, directing his eyes
over the Galactic Map, also called the GM. A virtual interface,
taking place of the pilots old standard GPS module. He poked his
finger out into the air, highlighting a system in the Gamma
quadrant of the Ulysses system. He'd gotten a report back on a
rescue mission from there and was checking off his list of
accomplished missions. That system was now, hopefully, clear of
threat and they'd not have to head back there. Last time they
had was when he and L'aira had their falling out. That had been
sometime ago, and the higher ups found out about the
fraternization. They threatened to have her removed from his
vessel, but he pleaded with them that she was the best medic
he'd able to acquire since his papers had been signed as Captain
of the ship. They agreed to let her stay, but swore to him that
they'd remove them both if she got in the way of his work again.
He grumbled to himself and flipped through his papers again.
Stef came on board, uniform in tight condition, and pack slung
over her shoulder. She took to saluting Garrison at the helm.
"Captain, reporting for duty." she spoke, stiff and
straightforward. Garrison looked over at her and shook his head.
"For the last time, Stef. You don't need formalities with me."
He grinned and nodded. "At ease."
"Are my quarters arranged?" she asked, adjusting the strap.
Garrison nodded.
"Level 2. I've made some changes to the comms system, but they
are as they were." Stef nodded and started for the lift to the
second level.

Kael was down in the belly of the ship, training in a combat
sim. Sweat beaded on his textured yellow-red ombre skin, and his
eyes were narrowed in concentration. All he'd done since being
picked up was train, eat, sleep, and then repeat the process.
Not that he needed more skill, he just had nothing better to do
with his time. He was a soldier, and a d*mn good one at that, so
he always kept himself in peak physical condition. He growled
and threw a right jab threw a holo, and it shattered into
blocks. "TRAINING SIM.. OVER." A mechanical voice called out,
and he stood at ease, rolling his shoulders as the hologram
disappeared. He walked over and grabbed a towel, throwing it
over his shoulder as he headed for the showers. He need to clean
up before he rested.
Seeing Garrison had not sat well with L'aira. She was tense and
full of anxiety anytime she had to report to him, and it didn't
help that she was also not sleeping. The nightmares from that
genocide haunted her every night, and she'd wake up with a
scream on her breath and sweat drenching her body. Currenly, she
was in the infirmary, taking inventory of what they needed and
what they had. When they docked next, she needed to get supples.
Her shining blue eyes were tired, but her assistants said
nothing and instead tended to their patients.

Garrison, dropped the paperwork to the tabletop, the papers
falling through the GM's hologram. "Rolling out, Fang." he spoke
through his ear piece as he touched the button. He looked down
to his wrist piece, a band with few buttons on it and an LCD
screen. He pushed a small green button on it and started walking
towards the rear of the ship to his quarters. "Crew..." he
started, talking into his wrist band. "We're heading out now,
our next docking has an ETA of 72.5 hours. Rest up while you
can, and make sure when we dock at port you're ready with your
reports of this last mission. We're heading to Sanctum to meet
with the Council. They are going to want full reports of all
stations. Again, ETA 72.5 hours, full reports submitted to the
Council before we dock. Also, Ensign Valsarian, please report to
my chambers immediately. Captain Out, happy flight, crew." He
stopped at his chamber door, watching as it split and opened
with a hissing sound. He stepped inside and walked over to his
desk in the center of the room. Opening his holocrom terminal,
he looked over the report from his Command Post. He grinned and
rested back in his chair.
Stef arranged her things in her locker and press folded her bag,
then placed it neatly inside. She paused to listen to the
message over the intercom and checked her watch. She needed to
clean up and get a few hours of shut eye before she reported to
the Mess Deck for rations. She unbuttoned her dress coat and
hung it neatly in her locker, then sat down to untie her boots.

Kael was in the middle of showering off when he heard the
Captain call him over the com system. He rolled his eyes with a
groan and cut the water off before starting to dry himself. He
pulled on his lightweight pants and a tanktop before slipping
his shoes on. Hanging the towel to dry in his locker, he made
his way to the elevator system and got in, crossing his arms.
"Captains chambers, please." He muttered.
L'aira looked up as Garrison's voice rang out with instructions
for their next stop. Her chest tightened a little but she shook
her head and looked at her clipboard. "Everything is in
order..." she murmured to herself, placing it back on her desk.
She glanced over the various patients, nurses, and assistants
before moving some hair out of her eyes. "Jaarl, I'm stepping
out. Please use the com it you need me," she said softly to a
large black-green humanoid male. He took her form and gaze in
before nodding slowly.
"Take as much time as you need, boss," he grumbled, the air
vibrating around him. She smiled weakly, glad for his support,
and then started out to the observation deck.

While Garrison waited for Kael to show, he pulled out another
report he'd kept hidden in his desk. He looked it over and
sighed, running his free hand through his high and tight hair
cut. He was looking at L'aira's dismissal report. The one he
pleaded with his commanding officers to take off the books. She
was a valuable asset to the crew and he certainly didn't want to
lose her handy work in the Infirmary. He also didn't want to go
a day without being able to see her, he needed her reminder to
keep his head afloat. If not for her, his mission a few weeks
back would have been a failure. He still hadn't managed to tell
her thank you for keeping his head on tight back then too.
Stef replaced her boots with a pair of slip on loafers she'd
picked up from a trader before they left the Terminus. She stood
up and checked her reflection in a mirror over her nightstand
and then straightened up. Leaving her room, she headed for the
infirmary, her sleeping meds awaited her there, something to
take the edge off of her night terrors.

Kael crossed his arms and leaned back against the elevator pod
as it shot him to the Captains chambers. He was irritable, but
he knew he had to do this. He couldn't keep bouncing around the
fleet like he had been. After a few moments, the pod was coming
to a halt and he stood off the wall. The doors opened with a
soft hiss and he walked through, rubbing his hand over his
armored head. He stopped at the door and rapped on it with his
knuckles, awaiting permission to enter.
L'aira took her time before making it to the observation deck,
near to the Captains chambers. She sat down, tucking her long
grey skirts under her legs with a sigh, and then turned her gaze
towards the stars. She always felt most at peace when she was
here. Seeing all the planets, moons, stars, and the like always
calmed her down for whatever reason. She gently fingered a
beaded necklace of sorts, rolling the cool beads between the
pads of her fingers, and focusing on the sensation. Her mind
however drifted to Garrison, and the relationship they had
previously. She wouldn't admit it out loud, but she missed the
Captain so much it hurt at times.

Garrison released the doors, opening them for the male. "Kael."
he greeted, putting his report sheet back where he'd gotten it.
He stood and walked around his desk. As he did, he picked up a
oblong flat box, resembling a jewelry box. "I've been given the
go ahead. My commanding officers have heard how you have helped
us over the passed year you've been with us. And my fleet has
agreed with the decision to make you a true part of the crew."
He smiled and looked the male over. "I'm in need of a Lieutenant
to lead my second squad. Are you interested in taking on the
job, Ensign?" He held out the white box to him, awaiting his
answer.
Stef retrieved her dose of meds from the infirmary and headed
back to her quarters. She couldn't wait til they were back on
soil, she really missed being on a sturdy piece of land that
didn't float in the nothingness of space beneath her feet. She
walked back to her quarters and stopped short, a pain spiking
through her lower back. She winced and kept walking, slowly.
"Da*ned bones..." she grumbled, dragging her feet all the way
back until she was flat on her back in bed.

Kael walked in, nodding at the greeting, and watched the Captain
warily. But as he pulled out the box and listened to Garrison
speak, his eyes widened in surprise. "Me? A lieutenant?" he
repeated, eyes going back and forth between the box and
Garrison's face. This almost seemed to good to be true. With a
few moments of hesitation, Kael finally nodded and took the box
in one hand, saluting with the other. "It would be my honor,
Captain," he said gruffly.
L'aira sighed softly and closed her eyes, fingers going over the
beads as she allowed herself to be lost in her memories.

Garrison saluted him in return. "Welcome to the team, Lt.
Valsarian." he smiled. "You'll find your rank inside that box
there. And as soon as we dock, we'll get your uniform delivered
to the ship before our next departure. I happily agreed to have
you enlisted with us, and I'm glad that you've agreed to this.
You're dismissed Lieutenant. I'll see you after rest period." He
turned and moved back to his desk.
Stef laid in her bed and stared at the steel ceiling of her
room, the pain in her joints subsiding as she rested. She
started wondering of her fellow Xefarians back on Sol.
