THE PUZZLING CIRCUMSTANCES ENCOUNTERED BY PROPHET
MUHAMMAD
I will start this article with a quote from Quran 29:2 Do
people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We
believe," and will not be tested.
One of the misconceptions or ways which non Muslims do used to
against Islam is the problems that happened to Prophet Muhammad
PBUH such as death of his children, hostility from his people,
etc. By saying how such and such happened to prophet of God, as
far as enemies of Islam is concern they try all method to
against Islam by giving wrong teachings about Islam that's why
Allah says in Quran 61:8 They intend to put out the Light of
Allah (i.e. the religion of Islam, this Quran, and Prophet
Muhammad SAW) with their mouths. But Allah will complete His
Light even though the disbelievers hate (it). Although we
should not expect them to say any positive things about Prophet
Muhammad because Allah himself says in Quran 2:120 And the Jews
will not be pleased with you, nor the Christians until you
follow their religion. But it is the duty of every Muslims to
convey the message of Islam to non-Muslims by explaining their
misconceptions to them, even if it can't make them to accept
Islam but it will neutralize their misconceptions.
Allah sent many messengers and prophets as giver of glad tidings
and Warner against wrath of Allah which means they came to this
world only to pass the message of God to their people and they
were not for any worldly affairs as Prophet Muhammad said I
have nothing to do with this world. The parable of me and this
world is like a rider who rests in the shade of a tree, then he
passes on and leaves it. (At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah) and Allah
gave them problems as trial as it is mentioned by Allah in Quran
2:214 Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such
(trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were
afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken
that even the Messenger and those who believed along with him
said, "When (will come) the Help of Allah?" Yes! Certainly, the
Help of Allah is near!
All problems that happened to Prophet Muhammad PBUH is just a
trial and it didn't deprive his Prophethood nor was it notified
his messengerhood because all messengers before him were tested
with problems but rather authenticate his Prophethood because
those problems didn't make him to leave the work of God.
Allah gave trials or test to all Prophets and the trials is high
base on how Allah love them for examples the case of Job that
was tested with sickness and in a day all his properties
including wives, children, wealth and power were perished (full
story is mentioned in book of Job) and yet he was still believed
in God as it is mentioned in Job 1:22 In all this misfortune
Job committed no sin, and he did not reproach God and Allah
also said in Quran 21:83 And (remember) Ayub (Job), when he
cried to his Lord: "Verily, distress has seized me, and You are
the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy." Moses also was
tested with his people till he said to his people in Quran 61:5
that why do you hurt me. Noah was tested with his wife and son
which they were enemies to him and he never tired of doing the
work of God. Abraham was tested with his family that they
against him till they put him into fire. Zachariah (zakariyah)
was test till he said in Quran 21:89 And (remember) Zakariya
(Zachariah), when he cried to his Lord: "O My Lord! Leave me not
single (childless), though You are the Best of the inheritors.
Jonah also saw trial as Allah mentioned in Quran 21:87 And
(remember) Yunus (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and
imagined that We shall not punish him (i.e. the calamites which
had befallen him)! But he cried through the darkness (saying):
La ilaha illa Anta [none has the right to be worshipped but You
(O Allah)], Glorified (and Exalted) are You Truly, I have been
of the wrong-doers. The greatest problems which can happen to
Prophets is by killing them such as John the Baptist and this
doesn't deprive him of been a Prophet. What about Jesus? He was
also tested with his people and poverty, Jesus was rejected by
his people as mentioned in John 1:11 and Quran 61:14 which is
also one the great problems that can happen to Prophet because
the purpose of sending them is to pass message to their people
and since they rejected him it will make it difficult to pass
that message to them, they afflicted him so much that he could
no longer work among the Jews any more and ran away to desert or
wildness as mentioned in John 11:54, he received painful slap
from his people and he was poorest man in term of wealth even
there was a day that he was moving with his disciples and he was
hungry Mat. 21:18. These are just few out of the Problems that
happened to prophets before Prophet Muhammad.
But the arising question is that why Allah must test or gave
them trials or problems to his Prophets?
Allah says in Quran 67:2 Who has created death and life, that
He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the
All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving. They were classified as best
among their people that's why they were chosen to spread the
word of God and that problems will differentiate between them
and who sent them (God) so that their people will not take them
as God and it will make it manifest to them that they were men
like them but chosen ones that received revelation from God. And
also they are role model to all believers and if any problems
happened to any believer he/she will see example among them and
follow the way they acted, pray and how God solved it for them
and to proof it for us that we all must see such and to keep our
belief in Allah. And on the day of judgement there is no excuse
for any human being for not worshipping God because there is no
problem that will happen to anyone that has not happened to one
or two prophets and on the day when Allah will ask everyone that
why you didn't worship Allah and he say I was disowned by my
people or parent Allah will say your Case is like the case of
Abraham or I didn't have wealth and poor Allah will say it can't
up to the case of Jesus, if you say you lost your children that
is why you forgot your purpose on earth, Allah will say why
don't you Emulate Ayub (Job) and Muhammad, or l lack health
that's why I can't worship God, the response to him will be
didn't you read or hear about Job. Which means problems is not
an excuse for not worshipping God.
As Allah tested all these prophets with trials and problems but
he later solved it for them and they all overcome their enemies
like the case of Job, his lost later restored by Allah Quran
21:84 and, Allah accepted the call of Jonah and Zachariah Quran
21:88 and Quran 21:90 respectively, Moses also overcome his
people, Allah saved Abraham from fire which he was thrown by his
family and Jesus became uppermost over unbelievers (among his
people) Quran 61:14 and 3:55. And Allah made Prophet Muhammad
happy by revealing a chapter to ease him Surah Dhuha Quran 93
1. By the forenoon (after sun-rise); 2. And by the night when
it is still (or darkens); 3. Your Lord (O Muhammad) has neither
forsaken you nor hated you. 4. And indeed the Hereafter is
better for you than the present (life of this world). 5. And
verily, your Lord will give you (all i.e. good) so that you
shall be wellpleased. 6. Did He not find you (O Muhammad) an
orphan and gave you a refuge? 7. And He found you unaware (of
the Quran, its legal laws, and Prophethood, etc.) and guided
you? 8. And He found you poor, and made you rich (selfsufficient
with selfcontentment, etc.)? 9. Therefore, treat not the orphan
with oppression, 10. And repulse not the beggar; 11. And
proclaim the Grace of your Lord (i.e. the Prophethood and all
other Graces). Allah Blessed Prophet Muhammad PBUH in abundance
even all his children were died except Fatimat that died after
him but Allah still keep his generation till today through his
grand sons (ahzan and uhzen), that's why Prophet Muhammad PBUH
said Imam Mahdi (who will come end time) will come from his
descendant, in world today his name is the first name that's
mentioned most in every hours, every days and statistics made it
known that Muhammad is the most popular name that they are
naming new children in America as at today. And Allah made him
to finish his mission on earth (by perfect the work of prophets)
before he died.
