Incentivizing PvP and the South
By: Pwnsaucier Date: April 12, 2020, 10:40 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I would like to propose a concept that would add incentive for
people to visit and loot the South (PvP) side of the map.
Currently, as I understand it, there is no difference in any PvE
aspects in the South vs North; no extra XP, no better loot, etc.
In all the many hours I've been on our servers in the past 6
months, I have not heard of any PvP action. I think if there was
a little extra incentive to go to the South, we might start to
see some more significant activity on that half of the map.
Would it be possible to add a simple new server side mod that
would apply a custom buff to players when they are in the South?
For example, the buff could be +25 to loot bonus and +50% XP. It
could be applied by the same trigger and server logic which
currently sets the player to PvP when crossing the border.
Thoughts?

Just my thoughts on the matter:
Personally, I heartily approve. That said, modding for 7 Days
is far from 'simple', and I don't believe a mod like you're
suggesting is currently available. If you want to try it
yourself, have it at! I'd love to see the results.
And while we're on the topic, using a mod to tie buffs to a X/Y
coordinate may not even be possible. I've never seen a buff
like that, so the functionality may not exist in what code TFP
allows modders to edit.
-----
Incentives could be a cool concept, even if not through this
method. I'd certainly love to discuss other ideas people have.
This all, of course, is theoretical, and subject to the Boss'
input. ;)

I don't think such a mod does exist. We would have to make it.
First, you have to add the custom buff to buffs.xml via editing
the config file or doing a modlet for it.
And to clarify on how I see this flow happening technically on
the server:
[li]Player goes south beyond PvP border.[/li]
[li]Server manager detects player location and sets PvP mode
(already happening today automatically).[/li]
[li]Server manager uses the "buffplayer" command to apply the
custom buff.[/li]
[li]The buff will have a very long or infinite duration (I'm not
sure if it's possible to have infinite duration buffs?), and is
re-applied by server manager as soon as it wears off (if
infinite duration isn't possible).[/li]
[li]If player goes North into PvE again, the buff is removed
immediately with the "debuffplayer" command.[/li]
I'm not a real modder. I can only do some fairly basic shit.
But...

I'm not a real modder either. I've edited XML files directly in
the past, but am a total amateur in the area of making a modlet
with the xpath method. Getting the server manager and the
split-map mechanics to work with it would be entirely in your
ball park.
I can try the easy part, which is to make an attempt at a modlet
that adds the custom buff to server-side.

It is an intriguing idea. I personally was glad to see that TFP
finally fixed the offline LCB modifier bug so that we could make
PVP about player interaction and not offline raiding. That fix
was what made me decide to move to the South.
The loot and XP buff idea sounds cool if it can get technically
worked out. Another consideration could be some kind of ladder
system where once a week a player with the most PVP kills gets
"gifted" some kind of bragging rights and/or XP granting item.
Or a spot in the mall that displays the ladder.
Of course, those ideas are less technology-based and more
admin-intensive, which I know we are trying to cut down on.

i'm not really a pvper but what might be cool is to have like an
arena where a drop appears at a certain time each day and see if
battles for it happens i mean the package would have to have a
good chance at being legendary like find and have like 3
different possible spawn locations in a small radius of each
other maybe make it sorta close to the north border maybe 300
meters or so in the south
there was an event like this in WoW down by booty bay it used
to be some epic battles

I really like this idea! I am definitely going to see about
implementing something similar to this suggestion on the next
seed.

If you had the bot announce who first looted the item it would
kinda be like putting a bounty on them for a short time anyway.
Then pvpers could watch the kill feed for if they get killed and
by who for 2nd and 3rd targets and so on. By then the possible
players who might have the big item has grown drawing less and
less heat on each possible holder.
