Brake help
By: Tim Watson Date: March 28, 2013, 9:26 am

Hi folks, after a bit of advice please.
Having just rebuilt my front callipers after having a binding
one I can't seem to get the pedal as firm as before the rebuild.
I have bled and bled the brakes and can't get any air out, the
pedal is nice and firm with the engine off but once the engine
is running there is about an inch off lost travel, after getting
through that inch the brakes are fine, it firms up nice, locks
the wheels, skids are cool! Doesn't go to the floor.
I left the pedal depressed over night to try and get any air to
work it's way up to the ressie. But it's just the same.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.
Tim

If they're working ok I shouldn't worry too much....dont flat
spot yr tyres...you'll need em for Honda wooping!
It could be that if the calipers were binding before it was
artificially making the pedal feel firmer due to
friction...nothing else really springs to mind Tim if it's all
working well now.

I still reckon its air trapped 'somewhere'. Feels exactly like
it
The pedal was always good and firm before and pulled up nicely
in a straight line.
We shall have another head scratch...
As they are now there is zero scope for the pedal getting longer
during track work....

Could well be...I've seen someone have issues getting a pedal
after bleeding brakes...old master cylinders sometimes don't
like being disturbed...poss going past their natural wear
zone...strange but true.

Thanks jase.
We're gunna get it apart again on Friday and bleed them again
with the callipers off and try giving them a genial knock to
dislodge any air. Failing that I think a new master cylinder
will be on order.
Will get it on the rollers this month too!

I have a similar issue on my G40. Hoping the new master
cylinder will help!
