Did you measure any of the ports & throats Mark?
Exhaust manifold looks good...big diameter primaries...know the
diameter?
If that's dumping into a std system then not only is the system
holding it back but some of the effect of both the manifold,
head & cam will be reduced too.
With the engine running, go around to the tail pipe and feel the
exhaust pulse...if there's strong pressure coming out it's not
too bad, if it feels like someone is blowing on your hand
there's a restriction.

I didn't make a note of it Jason, i just did the first one and
measured to match the rest, they where opened out to 1mm short
of the their respective gasket internal diameters, the throats
were not really opened up to much, maybe 0.5mm from stock just
removed imperfections and seat grinding steps, again no
measurments, what an ameatur. The manifold ports were opened up
to about 2mm more than the head ports in case of slight
misalignment, the inlet manifold was pretty well matched to the
head.
I see what your saying with the exhaust,i will check that, what
are your thoughts on the standard look supersprint system?
Thanks again for the help

The exhaust I know of is a Supersprint Gp. A.
Not sure they even still produce them?
Check the tailpipe on the mk1 in this link

Supersprint are very good Mark...I run a 2.5 system on my
hillclimb car...not noisy.
Jetex is also very good.
You'll need a twin box system of whatever you use.
Well done for having a go with the head...sounds like room for
more flow though. I did a guide on another forum a few years
ago...I'll try and do an updated version here at some point.

Cheers jason, i really enjoyed having a crack at the head, its
all a learning curve :) who knows with a little more fine tuning
and an exhaust it may push out a little more anyhow

No probs.
As you've had a go...find another head and I'll guide you
through doing it...I'm fairly confident you'll pick up more
power and torque... 8)
