Charlie - Charles Fletcher Lohring Wells

Charlie 14-Jan-92
UP/AA
Elsewhere, I mentioned that there are a lot of things that have
happened that led to me more or less abandoning this site.
Nearly two years ago now, Charlie was severely injured in a
training accident. He broke both legs, had some internal
injuries, and it was touch and go. it's been more than twenty
years since I had to send him to military school. I felt like a
failed and abandoned him then, even though things turned out
well in the long run, but seeing him lying in the hospital bed
just tore me up.
Skipping a lot of details, Charlie eventually made a not quite
complete recovery, but he was medically (there is retirement and
separation, and I always get confused on which one Charlie got)
because he can no longer pass the basic fitness test (he can run
100 yards, but running the required 1.5 miles or swimming the
alternate weren't possible for him. Technically, he could be
re-instated if he's able to recover to that amount.
In the meantime, Charlie has been working with an ambulance
service since he recovered enough and moved home. He was
waiting for a job that recently came open, and he'll now be a
helicopter pilot operating out of our local air field, or
sometimes having to drive into Dallas. He's very excited about
this.
Charlie is also getting married in June. Valerie, his fiance,
has two sons - 8 year old Carter and 6 (soon to be 7) year old
Mason. Once upon a time, we would have had it in the back yard,
but considering what June has been like the past few years,
we're renting a venue.

That's too bad about the serious injury, but I'm happy for him
that he has recovered enough to have a normal life and that he
is getting married.

Thanks for keeping us updates.

It is hard getting back into the habit of keeping these things
updated. A lot of the reason I quit in the first place was so
much stuff is just quotidian. However, there are a couple of
things I should say here.
1) Carter and Mason joined Jay Pierce and the youngest two
Tidwell children in an Easter egg hunt in the backyard.
2) Charlie and Valerie are going to be married 14 June, so I'll
be pretty busy that week. Carter and Mason will be staying with
me for a bit while their parents are honeymooning, then they'll
get moved into their new place before taking some family time
together.

Beautiful! Looks like you will have a couple of littles around
again. Awesome. Littles help us to remain young ourselves.
Their energy is infectious. I am happy for Charlie and Valerie.
May their married life be blessed. May the entire family be
blessed. Carter and Mason are just a couple years younger than
my nephews. Great age. Keep the paddle out of sight. Let them
be boys and enjoy this new chapter in their lives. Of course, a
hand swat as they pass by, occasionally, will keep them on their
toes and show how much you love them and that they are a part of
the family, even if they will be married into the family. It
will help them know they belong.
