four enemy Yak fighters arrived in the area. I ordered my

I closed in behind one of the enemy fighters. I opened fire. I

pull up hard and rolled over, then I dove for the ground pushing
my throttle to the stop. The young enemy pilot tried to stay
with me. My engine was screaming as I yelled at it to keep
gaining speed and distance from the young fighter pilot. As I
closed to within feet of the ground I pulled up and turned hard
left. I deployed my combat flaps to help increase the turn. I
saw the enemy fighter at my 9:00 o'clock and continued the turn.

over, uncontrollably. The plane then began to dive at high
speed. It impacted the ground and exploded without me firing a
single shot at it. This kill however was not confirmed, I would
later note this action in my logbook. The skies were clear of
enemy aircraft. I ordered my wingman to rejoin and we headed for

attack any support vehicles we found. I saw an enemy AAA
vehicle, it was firing at the Hs-129s. I pushed the throttle
forward and lined up a shot the AAA vehicle. Once I was within
range I pulled the trigger. My cannon rounds were impacting the
enemy truck. The vehicle exploded in a ball of fire. I found

Excellent flight! You had a good fight there. Technically, the
takedown is yours, even if the sim didn't give it to you, as it
is a takedown by maneuver: you have led him to fall into a trap:
his own stall. I can imagine the surprised face of your crew
chief when you came home with the plane intact. We also know how
the boss chills beers.

Thank you for your detailed and complete report ;) . Good

Come on guys, let's take advantage of DH taking out a couple of
them. The longer we take to go there, the more reinforcements
will arrive .... Is there someone else who wants to help us
there? ::)

Well done DH!
A very well written and detailed report and good to see you
posting screenshots again.
This looks like great fun and I would love to join in, however
there are certain nations I will not play as and this mission
has both.

Actual Mission Name: Y2021 - Week 24 / Escorting HS-129
Date single mission actually flown: June 16, 2021
Mission Score: ? ??? ::) .... A plane downed confirmed;
Misc. Info if desired: Mission flown in BAT BLUE EDGE 4.1.3
Results/description of mission: MISSION COMPLETE
Debrief:
It was not difficult to follow the "Patos" (Ducks), as we
affectionately call the HS-129 in the South. In order to keep
them within my range of vision, I had to practically fly under
them. After crossing the frozen river southeast of Rzhev, the
Henschels veered sharply south, following the road. It didn't
take long for them to line up in attack position, I was really
amazed at the efficiency of these guys. As the leader of the
second fighter section, I kept guarding the skies, but it struck
me as strange that the enemy did not show up.
I saw an armored truck defending the tank column, and I
descended to attack it, but as I passed by, the cloud of snow
that raised the tank column worked like squid ink, and I did not
know what to attack. I kept going and got back up. The HS-129s
did a good wreck down there, I saw numerous explosions. They
told us on the radio that their work was done, and that they
were going home. I took it for granted that the first fighter
section would stay with them, and they did. Meanwhile, I was
taking one last look around the area, and just then my wingman
warned me of the arrival of enemy fighters. I gave the order to
attack, while I dedicated myself to finding the enemy.
It was difficult because of the poor visibility, and considering
I don't use icons, it's easy to imagine how I spent more than
ten minutes chasing ghosts through the clouds. Sometimes the Yak
passed by or over me, and I did not see them. I could see these
things well when studying the track. I managed to knock down a
Yakolev anyway, after grabbing it with my teeth like a hunting
dog, and not letting go. I saw the pilot leap from the wreckage
falling into the snow like a cloud of scrap metal.
Tracer bullets from distant combat caught my eye. I ran to the
south, I could see a Yak flying without rudder, to the west.
That seemed strange to me, but maybe the Russian pilot had lost
his way and didn't know where he was. I got behind him and
opened fire. Soon his plane was crashing to the ground. I didn't
see the pilot jump.
When I saw the recording to take the photos, I discovered that
the pilot did not jump, because he was no longer there, he had
jumped before I found his plane, flying empty and stabilized. I
had shot down a ghost plane.
I went home expecting my double helping of Berlin sausages.
At the end of the mission I was exhausted. I closed the mission
quickly without paying attention to the score. That is why I
cannot give an exact figure, although I can assure you that I
downed a Yak. End of my report.

It will be great if you participate too, [font=Verdana, Arial,
Helvetica, sans-serif]genXgamer. Tell us which
nationalities you would like to fly with us, and we will see
what we can do. You should know that I try to cover the entire
spectrum of the simulator. I have given the British and the
Americans good opportunities, then the Finns and now the
Germans. By the time this four-mission cycle is over, we may be
going to the Far East, flying for the RAF ... but it's still
undecided. In the future, I plan that we will also fly as
Italians, Belgians, Japanese, Russians, Spanish, Australians,
Greeks, and this would be enough to get to next year. May we all
be healthy to get there. ;)

Thank you for your kind comments Haukka and Xgamer ... very much
appreciated.
Great video and photos Haukka !!! You have flown an excellent
mission. The cloud cover made this mission very challenging when
trying to locate the enemy aircraft. You did very well !!! :) In
fact I saw "two" enemy aircraft destroyed by your guns. The
first was an excellent fight with the enemy pilot bailing out.
The second I would give you at least a 1/2 conformation as you
finished off that aircraft in good fashion.
Xgamer ... I agree with Haukka, he does an excellent job
designing the missions and we've flown in quite a few different
types of aircraft so far. It's great fun as well as puts your
skills to the test in a different plane every four cycles. The
missions are based on historical events adding to the emersion.
:)
Hopefully a few more flyers will take on this mission in the
near future. :)

Hi Guys
Although I have been aware of Beo's concept for some time it was
only late last year that I took notice, seeing you flying
Beaufighters in Africa.
I'll play any nation other than Axis and Russia.
RNZAF, RCAF and certainly RAAF fighter or fighter/bomber
missions would be great.
Belgium, Greek, Swiss (BF109s) or Operation Retribution -
Yugoslav BF 109s against the Luftwaffe.

Re: Mission Results Week 24

To begin, I'd like to say that every unit had to have a guy like
me: A Screwup who somehow has the favor of the Gods to succeed
at . . . well, most things.
My MaMa, (Grandmother), taught me that none of us can do
anything on our own, and we have a need for a deity, whether
it's just perceived, or actually real. My great-aunt, Lil,
taught me that we can bend reality, and reshape things with our
will, provided we can summon the proper amount of emotion
(emotion = energy) for the task.
You see, I'm a pilot from a Cherokee family. A family that's
been split apart by the U.S.A so many times that we are now
scattered across many states. But my family fought, and some
died for this nation. It was hard for me, when I first got this
game, to fly a German . . . ANY German aircraft. These missions,
this game, and the wonderful pilots from all OVER the World have
been a saving grace for me. That's what new pilots don't get
about IL2: This is THE game which transcended its own beginnings
and became a repository of history, telling the story as it
really happened from the standpoint of all sides. Including the
nations who were already treaty-bound and had NO choice as to
who they would fight for, such as Finland.
And so, here is an AAR which I hesitated to share. The reason
being that I felt like I did so many times in the U.S. Army,
when the Drill Sgt. would intentionally belittle you in front of
your entire platoon. Nothing special about me though, because
the bastards did it for all of us. But we are not in the
military here, and this WAS typical of what actually happened
sometimes, and my difficulty settings are partly responsible for
this, so here goes:
Escort Mission- HS129's
I listened to the Commander's briefing and was convinced that I
understood everything. The 129's were going in, low-level, and
were to be protected first and foremost! They would attack tanks
while we provided top-cover. Normal takeoff. My communication
with Ground Control (er . . . that would be my map and indicated
waypoint settings) positioned me at the first waypoint and
wouldn't give orders to proceed after passing the waypoint
several times. It seems my wingman had some sort of a problem
and this was presumably to wait for him. All the while I
gradually gained altitude.
https://scontent-atl3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/204916378_10224405504620616_40…
After my wingman made it up to join me, the bombers were well
ahead of us. And yet, the tower was recalling us to our first
waypoint from the flughafen. Taking her up a bit higher. When
would we be allowed to join our escort?
https://scontent-atl3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/204147192_10224405505980650_58…
FINALLY! We are given orders to proceed, even as our bombers are
nearing their target. Would we get there in time? And do we
trade off this altitude advantage? Yes! Gradual descent all the
way to the target in hopes that we can get there in time to
help. Fortunately, no aircraft seem to be in the area right now
according to comms (yeah, map again). We came up on the bombers
at over 320 mph, and they were just beginning their work. No
enemy fighters visible.
https://scontent-atl3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/202765820_10224405507020676_13…
Smoothest bomb-run on the tanks, ever! I didn't see a single one
of our big toys go down. They went on past their targets and
didn't return. Now, I had to decide if I would stay in the area
and strafe tanks, or rejoin the bombers, in case enemy planes
would appear. I decided that the primary objective had to be
taken care of first, and so headed for the formation with my
wingman.
https://scontent-atl3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/202780659_10224405507860697_30…
And not one . . . not a single fighter appeared to challenge us.
In the end some of our 129's took some ground fire, but it
looked like no losses. We arrived over our airfield and the
bombers continued on to their respective bases. I "landed"
safely, but never made it to the parking area. Here's a pic of
me getting a mission complete as I once again break off my
landing gear.

And here is a score for obeying orders to the letter, even
though not a shot was fired from my plane.

So there it is: A very relaxing joyride in the FW. WITH
POINTS!!!
*I flew this mission again, this time choosing the option to
attack a ground target, and immediately 2 enemy fighters
appeared. I got my butt kicked and the first score was higher
anyway. This is in no way a complaint, but a surprising find
about choices in these missions. Thank you, Haukka!

Hi Bird, I'm glad to see you giving your report from week 24.
Your initial thoughts are interesting.
I understand that you have had problems with the control tower
or with your wingman.
Let's look at the different cases. First, if he is a human mate,
and depending on the type of mission, you can turn around to
wait for him or to meet him again, in case he has been delayed,
but if it is an AI pilot, the treatment is different. If an AI
stops following you on a mission, you first order it to rejoin.
If he doesn't obey, forget about it. I don't trust them,
although I don't stop giving them orders.
Then we have the control tower. For me, the main function of the
control tower is to show you the direction to return home when
you have trouble finding your way to the base. It is also good
to ask for landing authorization, because in this way the other
flights in the area are also ordered in another way. But the
development of a mission cannot depend on what the tower tells
you about what you can do or not do in a certain waipoint.
The moment you were starting your engine, the two formations of
HS-129 flew by just to your left, you just had to follow them.
Nor is it stated anywhere in the instructions that the
development of your mission depends on the authorization of the
tower to proceed. Perhaps you have been using some function of
the NG-HUD that I am not aware of, but in any case that was not
contemplated in the instructions. You must adhere strictly to
the mission instructions, and don't linger waiting for the AI to
meet you, while the mission slips out of hand. The captain does
not wait for the soldiers, as if they were girls who are lost in
the field. You must move on.
Also remember that these missions are intended to be flown in a
4.12.2m stock version, this means that we don't have such things
as the fabulous triggers of the HSFX and now also the BAT. With
triggers, we could afford other times and other very interesting
things (I will give examples later, I have played a lot with
triggers in recent years), however we have to think about the
missions with the minimum of resources, represented by the Stock
version. So, for the missions to go well, we must adjust to the
times, because each mission is like a very precise clockwork
mechanism. If you stay in a wp taking height and chatting
animatedly on the radio with the girl radio operator of the
tower, you may get the girl's number, but the twin engines will
leave alone and without an escort, and when you get to the "hot
zone", Everyone else will be gone: the Germans, the Russians,
Santa's reindeer, a polar bear, Santa, the Sasquatch, they will
all be gone. ::)
Bird, buddy, I have two more things to tell you today about the
control tower:
1) I hope you got your date with the girl with the sensual voice
...;
2) The girl is going on vacation. Helmut returns to the
microphone.
Thanks for your report, Bird. For me, the mission is a success
from the point of view of what we can learn from it. It is an
excellent flying lesson. I hope you can see it.
Go ahead, friend. Between all of us we move this a little
further.
