Flying the Mustang the mission Air Started me fairly close to
the Beaufighters' target. As an Escort for the Beaufighters I
tried to fly over and slightly to the side of the attack craft
to keep them sight and easy to defend. Everything looked good
(the Mustang III is a delight to fly) until a gaggle of FW190's
showed up. Instant chaos with me rolling too quickly and
somehow loosing sight of the action. I pulled up and waffled
around looking and spotted a couple of FW's chasing a Beau... I
quickly dropped behind the tail-end Charlie and began to unload
on him at fairly close range.... I don't know what the AI was
set on but he invariably was able to use his ESP to predict my
trigger squeezes as EVERY time I'd press the firing button he'd
(just at THAT particular moment...wiggle, waggle, dive, or climb
and fall off on a wing.) VERY frustrating, however I hung to
his tail and managed to get some SERIOUS hits on him with bits
flying off from his wing-root and tail section. ---All for
naught though as he soaked my heavy gunfire up like a sponge
with no apparent serious damage to his flight envelope. At
last, out of ammo I did a quick wingover and dove for
England...and so did he, right on my tail. Even with the crap
shot out of him he chased me like a rocket, and though my
wingman promised to help and was right behind the FW, he NEVER
did fire a shot to help me. Eventually (even though my Mustang
was diving for the coast WAY super fast, the 190 caught up to me
an though I jinked like crazy at his first cannon smoke, his
next burst blew me into burning crap. NO SURVIVAL. *Thanks,
Wingman!
A complete and embarrassing bust on THIS mission! ::) >:(

Call sign: larsresult
Mission: Pony III
Date: 1/27/2020
Duration: 7 minutes
Result: Died but took Fw190 with me.
Mission score: Nil.
Debrief: Started the flight under the Beaus, had to climb from
3600 to 15000ft before Fw190s appeared. First time flying the
Mustang so not sure if it was my joystick or the fighter but
took a few moments to steady myself. Lost sight of the battle
below for a minute or so. Weird yellowish colour to the front
cockpit view. Anti-glare maybe. My wingman flew in front of me
and indicated 'they are behind you' in true pantomime style.
lol. Ordered the squadron to attack fighters and dropped onto
the tail of two Fw190s that were chasing the Beaus. Closed in on
the tail end Charlie and blew him to pieces. Sadly I left it too
late to avoid the debris and was killed in the explosion. Too
much speed in the dive I guess. Forgot to throttle back.

Ah.... nice mission though, even if you did bite the bullet!
Took a Jerry with you, eh? He can be your guardian as you
journey up the river Styx. ;)
Yes, I had similar experience with the somewhat unfamiliar
Mustang III on game start...some sort of heavy turbulence/stick
jumping around. It smoothed out as I climbed to altitude though
and was fine.

Actual Mission Name: z23 Mustang - Black Friday
Date single mission actually flown: 2/13/2020
Results/description of mission: The escort was inefficient,
because eye contact with the bombers that were to be escorted
was lost. An enemy plane shot down confirmed. The Mustang squad
returned full, no scratches.
Mission Score: 100
Misc. Info if desired:
I am just coming down from my Mustang's cockpit, I still have a
numb ass from the cold north sea, after a long journey. I turned
off the engine at forty-nine minutes of mission, while the rest
of the pilots orbited around the airfield.
I didn't think I was going to survive on this mission.
At first, shortly after reaching the goal, I saw targets
descending rapidly and I confused them with enemies, so I
ordered my boys to go for them, but they refused. Then I saw
that it was another squad of Mustangs that was operating in the
area. The gray terrain and the excellent camouflage of our
airplanes made the task very difficult for me, I even lost them
when we left the target. Then I found them, and again I lost
them when my comrades sang enemy contacts entering from our
nine.
There began a confusing chase, where I was moving away from the
direction of my bombers, while my task was to escort them. I was
a few minutes away heading on ... 140 ? Maybe, I don't remember
well. Again, they were Mustangs. Then I headed to the exit of
the fjords, thinking that I would find the bombers there, and I
found them, but not where I expected, they were still flying low
in the western vicinity of the target, and were being attacked
by ... I knew later: FW-190. As I came with height, I threw
myself into the hunt with a lot of speed. Again I found myself
chasing a Mustang. "This is not my day," I thought, but before I
could react, I found myself flying directly to a Focke. After a
risky crossing, I turned strong to be at six of him. Here began
my only fight, where after touching it a few times, it ended up
crashing while trying to take me down flying low. I left the
area at very low altitude, moving away in an approximate
direction 220 , while I was gradually taking height.
Around me and everywhere, columns of black smoke rose to the
sky, with a mortuary cadence. The atmosphere was full of death
and desolation.
In every town I passed through, it seemed to me that they
received me with gunshots. It seems that these people are very
angry, it must be the family of the fallen German.
On the way back, several times I was startled to see a plane
approaching quickly from behind, and each time it was a Mustang.
Finally, the squad of four Mustangs was reunited again. Together
we returned to base (Peterhead), and already on the airfield, I
ordered them to land, then they maneuvered, and I joined them.
So I accompanied them a couple of minutes, in formation, as an
elegant way to return home, and especially because Colonel
Beowolff was watching the scene from the control tower, with his
powerful binoculars.
I asked permission to tower and landed without problems. I do
taxi to the parkink, and turned off the engine. The plane is
intact. Tonight's round of beers is invited by my mechanic.
