Hello and questions from new guildmate

Hey guys,
I just hopped back into the game after an extended hiatus. I've
been lurking for a couple days while I tried to get a lay of the
land but figured I should formally introduce myself here. I was
playing from December 2015 to June, competing for first on
arena, and clearing heroic rancor raids with my guild, but
dropped out with the introduction of mods. It looks like they've
added some nice new content and fixed the mods a bit. Glad to
see the guilds are still going strong and I like what you're
doing to keep the rancor interesting.

Seeing how my roster is optimized for the rancor raid and the
pre-mod meta in PvP arena, I have a mismash of characters that
doesn't seem to work well for the AAT raid or the current arena.
I'm also missing a lot of mods. Any of you have any advice on
what to spend my currencies on? I'm currently farming lando in
cantina for double drops/palpatine/AAT/credits/arena at the
expense of mods and using regular energy to gear up biggs/lando,
but the other shops seem a bit ambiguous. Part of me wonders if
I should just go full bore in on some ships rather than trying
to chase the meta since I have good pilot characters and the
arena there seems a bit less developed. Also, if there's a good
explanation of mods somewhere here or on the subreddit that
could be helpful. Thanks!

First let me say, welcome to the guild, and back to the game!
Second, I hate mods... I dont blame you for leaving because mods
are (in my opinion) the worst thing this game has ever added.
For me they are a nusence that I *have* to deal with to be
remotely competitive so I do the bare minimum. Outside of that I
love most everything else in the game including the ship update
:)
As for your teams, lando is a great start, from what I see you
have 3 big meta teams
1) Wiggs (Biggs and Wedge, paired with normally a tank of some
kind like STHan or RG, usually with lando for Rebel synergy then
something else strong, Palpatine, Anakin, Rey, even the
occasional Boba Fett now that he got reworked
2) Palpatine... This one shows up less then Wiggs, but with the
event coming back in 3 days, you will start to see this
everywhere (he is going straight into my Arena team for
instance). Is is often paired with RG, and if you see
shoretrooper, just avoid it at all costs... Very few people have
7* shoretrooper but he is ridiculously good and not farm-able
right now. After that you might see wiggs paired or other random
powerful toons, I expect to see TIE fighter pilot showing up
more and more soon since it is the newest farm-able thing in
cantina (I am gearing mine right now as we wait for palp to show
up) and is really good.
3) Droid team - After the two above, I probably see Droid team
the next post, HK47 lead, IG88, and IG86 paired with either Jawa
Engeneer and Chief Nebit (most often) or occasionally trade
Nebit out for B2. I think Skirata runs a droid team for arena if
memory serves
Honorable Mention - Jedi - You wont see much jedi high in the
ranks, but you will see them in the top 100, normally lead by
Ima Gundi or Anakin, they are a pain but easier to overcome then
the above teams. You typically have Anakin, Ima Gundi, QGJ,
Aayla, and Yoda.
Thats arena, my team is not very meta, so I fight for top 100
every day, are rarely cross into top 50 with
Anakin (Lead), B2, Rey, GS,5555s. I plan to drop Rey and GS as
soon as I get palpatine and TFP done.

Now looking at your arena team, what you have is not bad, I dont
think ive ever seen a SThan lead, I think your weakest link is
QGJ in that team, my personal pick would be to gear up and ad
5s. 5s is very good, I think he is the best member of my team,
and when you get through ship stuff and unlock zetas (my current
pain goal right now) his is awesome. Lando is also great for
you, mostly to put him as lead instead of han, but to be honest
I am not the best theory crafter in this guild, Skirata or
alwayswannafly are better then me, so ill let them help with
this lol

I'm at 17/100 on lando and 4 other rebels at 7* so I think I
have a shot to qualify for the 7* palpatine battle by the last
day of the event with 1-2 refreshs/day. Not sure if can beat if
with this team, but I'll give it a shot.
Level 80
AA (VIII)
Leia (VIII)
Lando (VIII)
STH (XI)
Biggs (VI)
If I get lando before the last day I guess I'll try and get a
set of mods for them. I'm still top 200 on my shard pretty easy
so its not particularly dire.
I do feel bad, though, throwing up only 400k on the AAT with 5
full teams of toons. At this point I'm mostly just zerging at
the boss at every stage with all my DPS/Assists with
Tanks/cleansers/healers as support. I'm sure part of that is me
not knowing the proper strategies yet, but most of what i've
read focused on characters I don't have. My jawas and droids are
extremely poor, and I never got Anakin, IGD, Aayla, or Wedge so
the Jedi and Rebel comps seem to be missing the key AOE
characters that rack up the damage. To be most helpful to the
guild in clearing the AAT raids (eventually at heroic), which of
these are the most important to focus on?

If it came down to a singular toon (after you get lando) I would
say Wedge. Wedge+Biggs is amazing and is one of the 3 core tank
raid teams along with lando and I assume SThan? I dont have him
lol, my rebel team is the same as yours -STH +Wedge.
As for the tank raid, as long as your trying, we arent pushy. We
have some players who go way above and beyond to make up for any
lower scores, the biggest problem for us right now is that 10 or
so players who didnt even try for the tank raid. As long as your
trying, your good in my book :)
Edit: If you were looking for more focus then Wedge, I would say
Droids are a good place to focus. They are super heavy hittings
that are great in GW along with the raid.
