| Young Adult Application (ages 18-21) | |
| **************************************************************** | |
| *************************************************** | |
| Please Note: Before applying with a young adult, your system | |
| must have at least one other inner who has been active on the | |
| board for at least 3 months. We at Heartland consider Young | |
| Adults to be in a transitional phase between child and adult and | |
| have policies in place to reflect this. There are multiple | |
| guardianship options for young adults: 1) To have a relative | |
| serve as their guardian, 2) to have a non-relative assigned as | |
| their guardian (the focus is on mentorship, not restriction) or | |
| 3) to not have any assigned guardian, and should a situation | |
| come up requiring an adult enter, the administration will send | |
| in a care worker or a social worker (with the hope of choosing | |
| someone who the YA has interacted with and feels comfortable | |
| with, whenever possible). 4) Select YAs live in the Warehouse, | |
| where they function as full adults keeping an eye out for the | |
| Warehouse kids (note: this option is only open to those who have | |
| been on the board with any inner - not necessarily that YA - and | |
| active for at least 6 months). Young Adults can correct those | |
| under 18, but are not above correction themselves. Young Adults | |
| are not permitted to adopt or foster. | |
