When we've been away, one of our cats lets us know how upset he
is by beginning to yowl at us at about 3 a.m. And the only way
to get him to cut it out is to roar the vacuum at him for a few
seconds! (I rig it up so we can turn it on without his being
able to see that I'm the culprit.)

If I (rarely) attempt to sleep in, mine will wake me with a few
actions performed in a specific order that reflect her
escalating level of annoyance with me. First, cool paws pads
and whiskers on my face with a loud bubbly purr. If that
doesn't work, then she flops to lay partly on me a few times,
whacking her tail hard against me, the bed, whatever - and she
puffs at me, like a dog (frustrated exhales). If I still don't
get up, she then goes into the kitchen and makes a lot of noise
by rattling a cabinet door until I finally give up and get up.

Dear Cat,
Opening the window so you can have a nice snoof of fresh air
(and supervise my weeding the flowers) is NOT an invitation for
you to make personal remarks through the screen about Someone
Being Lax because it is NOT dinnertime yet.
love,
Your Person

Dear Cat,
I truly wish you could speak and understand English for about
ten minutes, so we could sort some stuff out!
Sincerely,
Your greatest admirer
(My husband and I look at each other, then look at our cats, and
say, "No habla Ingles" sometimes. We have a mug that says, "I
wish I could text my cat.")

Gatsby huffs at me, at things. It's funny.

Dear little cat,
Doors that open also close. Sneaky kitties get locked inside
without the staff noticing. Please stay out of garages and
storage sheds so two households are not up until midnight
looking for you.
Your loving and exasperated person

Dear Cat,
You can huff all you want but you will not get your way in this.
You need medication for your asthma and we WILL give it to you
regardless of your displeasure.
We honestly do appreciate (even if it frustrates the hell out of
us) your ingenuity at trying to escape the situation. I have
never seen a cat capable of backing their ass up out of a box
while I try to give them a pill. Its truly a feat of
flexibility but we have a deeper box now.
Ask your predecessors... You will lose a battle of wills with
me. Please consider a surrender.
Your mean mommie

Dear cat,
Those mats are a direct result of your utter unwillingness to be
groomed. Keep this up and you'll end up sedated and shaved, and
none of us wants that.

If you could ask your cat(s) ONE question, and get an actual
answer, what would you ask?
I'd ask our black cat why he's scared of plastic bags. I'd ask
our torbie what her kittenhood was like.

I'd ask the rescue kitten why they're so darn scared of us :(
