Oscar nominations
By: BethinDC2AZ Date: February 8, 2022, 12:52 pm

I used to love watching the Oscars. Now, like most reward shows,
I'm all eh about them. But I am loving how streaming services
are kicking the old school Hollywood film machine in the ass.
Did anyone else see The Power of the Dog? Cause I'm still not
really sure I got it.

I love Cumberbatch & Jane Campion & started watching it but got
bored pretty early on.
Do you think it's worth watching ? I got lots of Ozark to watch,
ya know.

Honestly? No, unless I just completely missed the point or you
like feeling on edge over something you can't name.

Bumping this rather than starting a new thread for 2023.
Nominated films I've seen.
I groaned when Elvis came out. Gah! Do we really need ANOTHER
Elvis movie?! But I really liked this one.
The Banshees of Inisherin was ok. Kind of a slog to get through.
Everything Everywhere All at Once was absolutely delightfully
wonderful and I hope it wins.
I wanted to like Tar. I tried to like Tar. I tried to watch Tar.
Got about an hour in and fell asleep.
Top Gun Maverick...well, you know, fighter jets.
So I've got All Quiet on the Western Front in my Netflix que.
Guess I need to find two hours to read a movie. Women Talking is
in my Amazon que. Triangle of Sadness is in my Hulu que. That
just leaves The Fabelmans to rent and taking a miss on Avatar.

I have only seen "Elvis". I thought Austin Butler was
excellent.
I have "The Banshees of Inisherin" in my queue. Maybe I will
watch it this weekend.

I'm so far behind I've watched none of these things. I guess
that's what I'll do with some of my weekend?
Honey! Make popcorn!
Things I'm particularly interested in seeing are Everything,
Everywhere, All at Once, and The Woman King. Even though that
mostly got the Oscar Snub.

We were underwhelmed by The Power of the Dog.
And finding it hard to believe that Everything Everywhere got so
many nominations and is favorite to win Best Picture.
We only have Netflix, so have missed most of the movies from the
streaming platforms.

I've not seen any of the best pic noms this year (yeah, saw
Maverick, but that SO doesnt count and cant believe it's in
there).
Hope Michelle Yeoh wins even though I've not seen Everything. I
just think she needs to win, dammit.

I saw All Quiet on the Western Front last night. It was good but
I feel like I've seen that film so many times before. Stupid
boys go off to play war and die terrible, brutal deaths. The
cinematography was epic. If you can set aside the violence and
just see the art I can see why it was nominated. I still like
Everything Everywhere best.
