Moderation Policy
By: animaniactoo Date: August 17, 2021, 3:13 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
***
We expect that people here will, in general, get along great and
be well behaved (you know what I mean!). However, in the event
of any issues, we would prefer transparency on what our
Moderation Policy is for your reference.
Please note that the mods are volunteers here. Nobody is getting
paid, and so we are not actively on the lookout for issues. We
will address whatever we happen upon ourselves*, but will
otherwise rely on reports from members. Therefore we ask that
you pay attention to the Community Rules
https://haxnuts.createaforum.com/general-discussion/community-rules/
and particularly these 2 portions:
If you think someone is out of line, attempt to talk to them
directly about it before flagging for moderation.
Please use the available tools to make this the best
experience for yourself - including ignoring other users and
topics.
Note about flagging something for review: This will be sent to
the mods via e-mail and your email address will be visible. If
you have privacy concerns and do not want the mods to have your
e-mail address, please change the e-mail address in your account
profile.
Points accrual and appeal overview
Our policy is that a minimum of 2 mods need to agree for points
to be assigned to a user.
If you appeal: 3 mods will review and we will try not to have it
include the same 2 mods, but because this is all done on a
volunteer basis we cannot guarantee that.
It takes 60 points before a user is muted.
10 points before they go on the watch list
Mods can assign as many points in a day as they feel are
warranted because we need the functionality of being able to
instantly mute somebody.
Points de-accumulate at a rate of 1 point per day. So somebody
who has been assessed 5 points will be back to zero in 5 days.
Specified actions by violation type:
Debate is getting too heated and devolving into a personal
attack:
Step 1: Mod warns to tone it down via a comment on the thread:
"This is getting too heated and veering towards personal
attacks. Please take it down a notch."
Step 2: If it continues, Mod either issues a second warning or
deletes the post or locks the thread with a message as to why
the thread was locked and issues points to the person/people in
violation. Between 5 to 10 points depending on the severity of
the attack.
Step 3: Mod sends a PM to advise that they have been assessed X
number of points and please review the community rules and
contact for any clarification they may need.
Step 4: Mod leaves a summary in the moderation history section
of what happened. Any future incidents are logged on that thread
so that if there's something questionable, we can check the
history before choosing how to act.
Hate Speech/Slur
Step 1: Mod changes it to leave a message "This isn't welcome
here". We will do it this way because it's a clear message both
for the poster and anyone who may have seen their message.
Step 2: Mod issues points - This a straight 5 pts per post for
this.
Advertising
Step 1: Because this is SO clear as to the 1 post rule for a
personal business, this will go straight to delete and an
assessed penalty of 10 points per post.
Step 2: Mod sends a PM to advise that they have been assessed X
number of points and please review the community rules and
contact for any clarification they may need.
Step 3: Mod leaves a summary in the moderation history section
of what happened. Any future incidents are logged on that thread
so that if there's something questionable, we can check the
history before choosing how to act.
Banning:
There is no set policy on banning at this time by points
accrual, and we dearly hope we never need one. If it becomes (or
appears to become) necessary, the mods will discuss and make a
decision together based on 1) The severity of the violation. 2)
The member's overall history.
Appealing:
Please reply to the mod who reached out to advise you of the
points assignment and ask them for a review, including whatever
information you feel is relevant.
------------
If you feel something is missing from this policy, please send
me or one of the other mods a PM so that it can be discussed and
addressed.
*Note, sometimes that may be something where we are attempting
to be helpful like correcting a formatting issue, and if we do
that to one of your posts and you would prefer that we don't do
that but ask you to do it yourself, just let us know.

Re: Moderation Policy

Updated Policy on 10/11/21:
We expect that people here will, in general, get along great and
be well behaved (you know what I mean!). However, in the event
of any issues, we would prefer transparency on what our
Moderation Policy is for your reference.
Please note that the mods are volunteers here. Nobody is getting
paid, and so we are not actively on the lookout for issues. We
will address whatever we happen upon ourselves, but will
otherwise rely on reports from members. Therefore we ask you to
understand that it may take awhile (particularly at night) for a
mod to see the report and address it, and be patient but trust
that it will happen.*
We also ask that you pay attention to the Community Rules
https://haxnuts.createaforum.com/general-discussion/community-rules/
and particularly these portions:
If you think someone is out of line, attempt to talk to them
directly about it before flagging for moderation.
Please use the available tools to make this the best
experience for yourself - including ignoring other users and
topics.
We understand that the ignore function has a deficiency in the
quote system, in that user's words will be visible to those who
have them on ignore if they have been quoted by someone else.
For this reason, we ask that you do not quote others who you
have reason to believe that many people have on ignore.*
Do not quote a post that you have reported as rising to the
level of offense (in violation of the Community Rules) that it
needs to be handled by the moderation team, as quoting them will
make the offending post visible to more people and make it
harder for the community and moderation team to handle it
without creating an uproar that can be avoided.*
It is not acceptable to violate forum rules yourself to
address someone that you think is out of line.*
Note about flagging something for review: This will be sent to
the mods via e-mail and your email address will be visible. If
you have privacy concerns and do not want the mods to have your
e-mail address, please change the e-mail address in your account
profile.
Please be aware: Reporting something for review preserves the
reported message at the time it was reported in the moderation
report. Later editing will not matter from the POV of the
moderation report. Therefore, do not quote the reported message
if you felt that it was out of line enough to report. Doing so
will be considered an uncivil action as it multiplies the number
of times that people are seeing the post.
Points accrual and appeal overview
Our policy is that a minimum of 2 mods need to agree for points
to be assigned to a user.
If you appeal: 3 mods will review and we will try not to have it
include the same 2 mods, but because this is all done on a

Points de-accumulate at a rate of 1 point per day. So somebody
who has been assessed 5 points will be back to zero in 5 days.
In the event that the report is about a moderator, that
moderator will recuse themselves from any involvement with the
handling of the report on themselves as a conflict of interest.*
Specified actions by violation type:
Debate is getting too heated and devolving into a personal
attack:
Step 1: Mod warns to tone it down via a comment on the thread:
"This is getting too heated and veering towards personal

the attack.
Step 3: Mod sends a PM to advise that they have been assessed X
number of points and please review the community rules and
contact for any clarification they may need.
Step 4: The person who filed the report is advised via pm of
what the result of their report is.*
Step 5: Mod leaves a summary in the moderation history section
of what happened. Any future incidents are logged on that thread
so that if there's something questionable, we can check the
history before choosing how to act.
Step 6: If the behavior continues, but is drawn out over a long
enough time that previous points have depreciated, the poster
will be temporarily muted and unable to post. The length of the
muting will be decided by the mod team based on the
egregiousness of the violation.*
Step 7: If the action that led to being muted was based on a
post/issue during a conflict on a thread, the mods
discretionarily may announce that the person has been muted as
part of requesting that the community move on from further
discussion about it.*

Based on these rules:
Coming back under a new name is fine, but accounts
should not overlap. If they do overlap, penalties applied to one
will be applied to both, all the way through to banishment.
It is fine to politely ask someone if they were previously X
poster, either publicly or privately. Politely means 1x not 5+
times if they are not giving an answer or someone doesn't
believe them.
It is not fine to accuse someone of being someone else or
declare that they are, and that is a points worthy
offense.
Mods will discuss whether they feel that the doxxing was
purposeful or malicious and assign points if they believe it is.
Posts with doxxing in them will be edited to remove the
name/deleted depending on the content of the post
Post Moderation: If someone has been muted, their posts will go
through post moderation and need to be pre-approved for a period
of at least 2 weeks after they have been unmuted.
Banning:
Anyone who has gotten to the point that they would be muted a
third time will be banned. There may be other circumstances
under which someone may be banned, but as of this moment there
are no other reasons they would be automatically banned.
Appealing:
Please reply to the mod who reached out to advise you of the
points assignment and ask them for a review, including whatever
information you feel is relevant.

If you feel something is missing from this policy, please send
me or one of the other mods a PM so that it can be discussed and
addressed.
*This is a change/updated/clarified as of 10/11/21.
