Lena has heartworm and seizures
By: Aardtacha Date: June 19, 2025, 7:56 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
If anyone has a bit of mojo to spare for poor Lena Horne, who
tested positive for heart worm last month despite being on a
preventative all her life. She had a seizure as we loaded her
up in the car for that trip, but we all just assumed it was
stress from the vet visit (and the fact that her sister wasn't
coming with us). Except today we took her and her sister in for
the follow up. She had a seizure before getting in the car on
the way, but the vet and we thought again that it's just a
stress thing. Except that she had another as we were going from
the car to the backyard coming back from the vet, and a third
just now. That makes me wonder if she's had some we've not seen
before.
So tomorrow I am going to go to the vet and get the seizure meds
Dr. H was talking about her probably not needing. I rather hope
we don't have to bring her along again, and that he can just
give me whatever he was planning to put her on.
Poor pup. She's been on the doxycicline for a month and this is
her month "off" before we do the injections to hopefully kill
the heart worms for good. Two full months of no playing, stuck
in her kennel except for very brief walks on a leash to
eliminate.
Bright side, it's the hottest time of the year and she wouldn't
want to be out much anyway.

Of course Lena Horne has all the mojo in the world. I hope you
can just get the meds, and that they work.
Alex had some seizures all his life. Not often, and they didnt
last long, but every now and then he would kind of freeze and
seize.

OMG, so much mojo for poor Lena! My previous dog had a couple
of (what were probably) seizures - just lying around the house.
The vet thought they were seizures and put him on medication.
They stopped. May this be true for Lena as well.
I didn't realize that dogs could get heartworm if they were on
the monthly medicatios - but I know they always test my dog at
her annual exams, and they are aware that I'm giving her the
medication so I suppose I should have realized that it's
possible.
Anyway, sending much mojo to Lena and to you.

Sending lots of mojo to both you and Lena. The seizures have to
be scary to see. Hope the meds will make a big difference!

Awww poor pupper. I hope those worms get out of her heart
quickly, and that the meds make the seizures go away.
