Re: LabPartner's WaPo Subscription

The problem with Venmo is that bad actors can create clone
accounts to scam you and Venmo will not help you. When a clone
of my granddaughter asked me for money that she would pay right
back, and I fell for it, Venmo could not have cared less. But my
bank, Capital One, gladly refused to pay Venmo for the
transaction I made to the bogus account. Venmo suspended me. I
never even looked their way again.
Zelle, on the other hand, is owned by a consortium of banks and
works only through your bank where you have to have a verified
established account. I'm not saying it can't be scammed but I
have never heard of one. That's what I use.
I do use PayPal for online purchases so I won't be spreading my
CC info all over the place - just in that one place. I have an
issue with Pay Pal but I still use them for that.

From a policy standpoint I think we should do this, but I voted
on the fence because from a practical standpoint if it would
make Lab feel like he had to contribute and make his life
harder, I don't want to vote yes.

That is a valid point. But I suppose if Lab decided hed had
enough, we could just not reimburse/stop reimbursing him for the
subscription. Maybe?
I certainly wouldnt want to make his life harder, but with so
many cancelling their subscriptions while still benefiting from
reading the letters, reimbursing him seemed fair. No
disparagement intended for those who have cancelled. Im
seriously considering doing so myself.
In the end, Lab should (probably) have the final say. But I
support covering his subscription as a way to say thank you for
all he does for us every day, and has for a couple years
already. 🙂

Clarifying point:
As Lab currently has not shared a way to send money to him with
me, votes on this are simply whether we as a community want to
do this.
He can choose not to accept (and then I will hound him
mercilessly for being such a [s]wuss[/s] mensch), which will
mean that he can stymie the whole thing from his end by
simply... not giving me a way to transfer the funds to him.

If nothing else, we've shown we're willing to put our money
where are mouths are to let him how much we appreciate him.

Perhaps Lab would like some other thank-you give?
