Vikings

JJ McCarthy is out for the season after surgery to repair a torn
meniscus.
So instead of the 10th pick in the draft, Vikings fans get Sam
Darnold: 3rd pick in the draft, but this is his 4th team in 7
years.
Here's hoping Caleb makes it through unscathed.

Are you trying to stir up trouble?

Or maybe offering sympathy.
Probably the trouble thing, though.

As a Packer backer who also roots for U of M, I have mixed
feelings about this development.

I adore the Substack writer Mike Tanier. Here's how he described
the Vikes' QB situation:
Minnesota Vikings: Sam Darnold vs. Fates Cruelty
The last thing Minnesota Vikings fans need or want right now is
toxic positivity. Forget the silver linings to J.J. McCarthys
season-ending injury. All of the brightest future outcomes for
McCarthy from a C.J. Stroud-level rookie season down to a year
of practice reps and cameos were pruned when he tore his
meniscus. Future probabilities are now skewed toward the
negative; among other things, the chance that injuries
completely swallow McCarthys career is much higher now than it
was eight days ago.
McCarthy could still be everything the Vikings hope for in 2025
and beyond, but the odds now tilt not-so-slightly the other way.
Its a shame, and sugar-coating the situation doesnt make it
better. Lets just hope for a thorough, uncomplicated recovery.
The Vikings shrink-wrapped Sam Darnold and gave Nick Mullens the
start against the Browns, and it was like watching mom stock up
on generic canned goods after dad lost another job. The Vikings
also signed Stephon Gilmore on Sunday for one year at $10
million. It was a move that probably made more sense when they
started negotiations, but they cannot send Gilmore back for
store credit.
The Vikings are now hunkering down for a dreary gap year. They
will be quasi-competitive but bland, and the whole season will
feel like little more than a waiting game for the return of a
savior who had yet to perform a single miracle.

At least the rumor I heard a few days ago on the radio that Tom
Brady would come for a year proved untrue.

I detest Tom Brady. And when I told my brother, a U of M grad
who was on campus at the same time as Tom Terrific one year,
that Tom had a MAGA hat in his locker, my brother said, "He's
dead to me."
I'm rather hoping Tom will stink at calling games, but I suspect
he'll turn out to be good at it.

Oh, and the Packers looked HORRIBLE last night without their
starters playing, fwiw.
