I went to a concert last night, and the orchestra played both |
|
Mozart and Joseph Bologne (Chevalier de Saint Georges). I had |
|
never heard of the second composer, who lived and worked at the |
|
same time as Mozart. |
|
During their lifetimes, Bologne was more popular and in at least |
|
one piece Mozart was extremely similar. |
|
Now we don't know much about Bologne, but you should try to find |
|
recordings. I liked his work as much or better than what |
|
Jeannette Sorrel chose from Mozart's work. They were delicious |
|
as well. |
|
Another thing, Bologne was black, and that may have been part of |
|
his loss of popularity, especially since Napoleon brought |
|
slavery back after the French revolution. |

I thought I hadn't heard of him, until I looked him up and found |
|
this video and recognized the first piece from the first few |
|
notes. Beautiful piece. |
