PSP EMU guide
By: MarcG84 Date: July 5, 2011, 7:00 pm

These hacks are intended for home brew only. I am not going to
provide links for any roms or any tools for running downloaded
PSP games. If you wish to know about how to run software to run
PSP games, ask me personally and I will provide the information
via email only.

This website is the website I first used to hack the PSP. I
found it very useful for finding the tools need to hack the PSP.
Before I go into details about how to hack the PSP, anyone who
wishes to know how to hack needs to know what firmware they are
running. This can be found in the in the far left of the XMB
under system information.
The reason for this is because each firmware has a different
type of hack. Now most PSP's can be hacked using the pandora
battery if your using the 1000 and 2000 models.
Once I have this information, I will guide you through the
process of what to do depending on the model and the firmware.
(the PSP go can also be hacked)
So please post the model your using, firmware and then I will
post the guide you will need

I know it`s not illegal to hack your PSP but there are limits to
what you can do legaly and if hacked incorrectly the psp could
brick up into an unrecoverable state. Pretty sure as well it`s
something Gamerdads wouldn`t encourage.

It was moobit which wanted my help. Also as long as no files are
hosted by this site there is nothing illegal at all.
Like I said in my first post, I am not helping people hack the
psp to play copied games. I am helping them unlock home brew on
the psp to run retro emulators and play classic roms.
As a few members have psp's, it would be easier for me to let
people get in touch with me about it but without being able to
advertise the help, it would be impossible for me to help them.
Maybe the title of the thread might make people think this is a
way to play illegal games. If it were to be worded differently
then maybe that would help any confusion.
Rename it "PSP EMU guide" or something on them lines.

PSP EMU guide would perhaps have been a better title and as I
said I know it`s not illegal to hack your PSP but the thing is
this kind of info is available elsewhere on the internet I`m not
sure it`s something we need here on the site :-\

Not that I am knocking it, as I have looked into this before.
But I was sure that playing retro ROMS still counted as
something that is not legal (unless you own a copy of the
original game). I could be wrong tho, and may well pick your
brain soon Marc!

technically it is illegal to download the roms but that is not
what I am providing. I am providing the use of EMU software to
be used on the psp. Where you get your roms from is none of my
business.
I am going to start posting some links up to the EMU software in
the next few days. As for the guide, its easier to see what psp
and firmware is used first.

Hi all,
Sorry I'm late-been busy with family stuff...
Marc-thanks for the advice in the post so far.:)
Nutsy&macca-thanks for the concern-good work youre right we do
have to be careful about these things. I an confirm it was me
who asked Marc on twitter how to run homebrew so it's my fault
re the confusion about the post. (Sorry Marc!).
As a retrohead, I'm just fascinated by te homebrew
community-bedroom programmers just like in the days of the
Spectrum! ;)
And yes you are all right-it's not illegal to run homebrew (I
believe Sony arnt keen themselves hence your warranty is void,
but they don't make the law, much as large corporations like to
think they do lol).
If someone wants to run retro stuff (not PSP or current gen
stuff-that is naughty) then its a grey area depending on the
original location of the manufacturer at the time of the games
release back in the day.
Macca is right too-I believe the guidance is that you can't
download the rom, but its not illegal to play a rom-it's really
weird! ???
I was thinkin of using backups of games I already own where the
console/computer is a pain in te arse to hook up to a PVR
directly, also tape based computers with 2 hour loading times,
lol.
In these examples, I have to plug the coax out cable to a VHS,
back into a bao that coverts the signal to scart, into another
box that converts the scart to red,White, yellow, into the PVR,
and then another cable into the TV! :(
In this example I'd have a tv out cable in the PSP-straight to
the pvr-simple. :) I also show proof of the game package and
artwork and me putting it into the console as part of the review
anyway, so it probes I own it. I will of course check te
legality of all this before I start making vids, but as far as I
know it's backing up your software and your property the same as
using a VHS back in the day or a blank DVD today...
