Englands World cup bid
By: macappin Date: December 3, 2010, 3:18 pm

I was hoping someone else would start a thread on this but here
I go. If Englands bid was a success, here was the plan. Wether
Scotland would have a team capable of winning it or not ;D My
boy would have been 20, the World Cups just down the road and we
can go down and hopefully go to watch a few games, join in the
atmosphere, have a beer and just have a good time. It would have
been great.
Instead they give it to the Russians ??? I watched the Panorama
programme on TV and read about the guys taking bungs for votes
so to to me, the people running the game threw thier toys out
the pram and gave it to Russia just cause they got caught out
lining thier own pockets. It`s pathetic behaviour and I hope
this is a catalist to get rid of these people.

The whole thing absolutely stinks. We, be Fifas own admission,
could host the world cup tomorrow. We have the infrastructure,
stadium and passion for a brilliant world cup. We also get
larger crowds than Russia (average 13000 for a top game) and so
would get more money for Fifa. We had the best presentation and
still only 2 votes. Now if it was because its never been held in
east europe, fine, I can live with that but could have at least
told us not to bother and waste 15 mill. The Russian pres didnt
even turn up wtf. It seems to me a bit of eurovision song
contest coming out here. No one likes us but.......well we do
care now

England will more than likely never get the world cup because
we're seen the world over as a nation of football hooligans.
Whether that title is deserved is a different matter. TBH the
state of the economy and the number of uneplomyed at the moment,
I think it's despicable that we're pissing the money away on
this and the olympics. It should be a case of, "sorry love to do
it but we're a bit skint at the mo"

We lost this thanks to our stupid media not keeping their mouths
shut. Strangely, the people saying that's not the reason, are
the media.
Imagine if you want me to vote for you to win Xfactor, but the
day before your partner broadcasts I'm a cheat and have been
given a brown envelope by one of the other contestants to help
them win, I'm going to purposely not vote for you any more. This
is technically what our media did for us.
Some FIFA officials have since pretty much admitted to this as
well.
It's a shame because I would have loved to have won it, then ban
all newspaper and BBC journalists attending the games.

I think you're spot on with this one Baz. It was my first
reaction when I heard this news too. For some perverse reason
the media in this country seems hell bent on destroying or
corrupting anything that seems to bear any resemblance to 'good'
news. It's a culture now. Scandal sells news. We all know FIFA
are as bent as a fiddlers elbow, the whole organisation has been
for years now. It's old news, but the media still keeps peddling
this shit as an excuse to deflect any blame they need to take
themselves. The World Cup would have been an amazing experience
for this country, it could have brought so many people together,
be it Irish, English, Scot or Welsh under the banner of
football. It's a massive missed opportunity, but sadly, many
people that read the tabloids will miss the point entirely. A
real shame.

I think that anything that involves a panel of so called judges,
can be easily bribed with brown envelopes. Maybe not so obvious
as a bag of cash, but some other incentive to the voter.
FIFA themselves know, just like everyone else does, that England
is ready to host a World Cup tomorrow. We have everything in
place already, and we would have improved on it over the next 8
years, ready to put on an amazing show. The money this would
have generated for our country is amazing.
Not sure what our media need to shut the f@k up. It just seems
that in modern day that bad news is the only news worth talking
about. Strange really.
