Boxing
By: MarcG84 Date: December 11, 2010, 9:33 am

As a thread hasn't been started I thought I might as well start
it.
Tonight see quite a few British fighters and here is the line up
British super-middleweight title
Paul Smith v James DeGale
WBO interim light-heavyweight title
Nathan Cleverly v Nadjib Mohammedi
European middleweight title
Matthew Macklin v Ruben Varon
WBO Inter-continental welterweight title
Kell Brook v Philip Kotey
Commonwealth light-heavyweight title
Tony Bellew v Ovill McKenzie
WBA light-welterweight title
Amir Khan v Marcos Maidana
Now I will be trying to find a link for the fights tonight and I
will post them up on here. Its going to be a good night for
British boxing as we have 9 brits in 7 title fights.
The big fight is the Khan fight with him fighting a guy who can
punch for the first time since the Prescott fight.
I think Khan will win but it wont be within the 12 rounds. He
wont be able to stick his feet down to punch toe to toe with
Maidana as this guy comes forward all the time. After watching
youtube clips, this fight is going to be close. If Khan avoids
the big punches all night then he will win. If Maidana hits Khan
with his right hand on the the chin then its lights out. Khan
has said that his chin is no problem any more but they are
famous last words from boxers who say that.
The Paul Smith v James DeGale fight is set to be the fight of
the night. Both have no respect for the other and this looks
like its going to be a slugfest. DeGale has very little
experience but has so much confidence in the ring. Paul smith is
the champion who is a all round good fighter (apart from the
fact hes from liverpool). Smith is going to dominate the fight
is it goes past 3 rounds as he has the experience to do so. If
DeGale is to win then he has to look to knock Smith out.
As for the other fighters, I dont know enough about them to make
judgement calls on who is going to win but overall, this could
be the best night of boxing for 2010.

Fight of the year.

It was a great fight and anyone who says Khan can't take a punch
might rethink that. He did look like he was about to be knocked
out a few times, yet somehow he fought back and that shows the
champion spirit in him.
I hope he finishes this division quick and moves up to the likes
Mayweather and Berto.
I think he might be the best at his current weight but a move
up will show people if he is as good as he says.

the Hopskins fight will be a good one. In Canada you need a
knockout pretty much to win. No throwing in the towel and a
doctor cant stop the fight. Only the ref can stop it.
Khan has already said he wants to unify the belts in this
division but he does want a fight with Mayweather next year.
Depending if the two other holders on the belts in his current
division want to fight him, he might have no choice to move up.
He has a bright future if he keeps a cool head and doesnt get
over confident.
