| That's quite an interesting question. | |
| Church halls etc. are often used for various activities (social | |
| clubs, coffee mornings for pensioners, parent meeting groups | |
| etc.) so I don't necessarily see how it would be illegal to hire | |
| out a room from there if there was such an option. It could be a | |
| way for the Church, synagogue etc. to make some money towards | |
| their functioning. Having said that, it would probably attract | |
| clients from that particular faith only and if I advertised on | |
| my site that I also do therapy from such a place, it could | |
| potentially put off others. | |
| Would I do it though? | |
| Definitely no. | |
| Is it illegal? | |
| I don't think so but I am happy to be corrected. | |

| Yes, I thought it was an interesting too, having had colleagues | |
| who are christian counselors. | |
| I felt that it could be considered discriminatory to clients who | |
| were not of that faith for the therapy to be offered from a | |
| place of worship. This implies heavily that the therapy will be | |
| from the religious modality, therefore discriminating against | |
| others. However, if the therapy was advertised as religious | |
| therapy from the corresponding religious place of worship then I | |
| felt that this could be considered under special circumstances. | |
| Therefore I felt that it could be illegal under discriminatory | |
| basis to operate as a Psychotherapist in a Church Hall | |
| (Christian), Synagogue (Jewish) or Mosque (Islam). | |
| I also would not do it myself, however I have considered working | |
| in a building that also holds meetings for the local Quaker | |
| Group, I felt that this was not linked because the building is a | |
| community and not a religious one. | |

| I've also seen job adverts for counsellors (and support workers) | |
| from a Christian Charity; there was a condition that the person | |
| working there is a practising Christian. | |
| However, my undergrad psychology research was done for a | |
| Christian Charity who provided one to one counselling for post | |
| natal depression. They were flooded with requests and NHS/GP | |
| kept referring women to them but they had no extra funding. So | |
| they came up with an idea for a brief group therapy. I was the | |
| researcher hired to see if group therapy works (they tried to | |
| offer therapy to as many as they could this way). At no point | |
| Christianity or faith came up during the sessions. But my | |
| understanding was that the therapist conducting the therapy | |
| would have to fulfill the criteria of a practising one. But most | |
| women who attended the therapy were non-religious. And they | |
| advertised as a Christian Charity. So it definitely wasn't | |
| discriminatory in this sense. | |
