| Tips on Minimizing Contact Without Sacrificing Social Interactio | |

| Although the media wants to minimize our Covid-19 situation, the | |
| significant risk for getting a Covid-19 infection is still with | |
| all of us. For people who are considered older (age 65 and up), | |
| immunocompromised, dealing with Long Covid, care for others who | |
| are in those prior categories or are just concerned about your | |
| own level of safety, the lack of media attention given to | |
| Covid-19 at this point can be lacking. | |
| It's still important as it was years ago to stay protected. | |
| Layers of protection include wearing an N95 mask during | |
| potential contact situations (such as indoors with strangers), | |
| limiting your social contact opportunities and staying | |
| vaccinated with the latest Covid-19 boosters. | |
| Yet we've also learned, throughout these years, tips to perform | |
| these activities as efficiently as possible. What are yours? | |
| ** Do you buy in bulk at warehouse stores in order to avoid | |
| superficial trips to the grocery store? | |
| ** Perhaps you buy supplies online and avoid the stores | |
| altogether? | |
| ** Do you go to the stores early in the morning or late in the | |
| evening (to avoid the crowds, perhaps)? | |
| ** Have you used tele-health and other online video-conferencing | |
| in substitute with going to certain places? | |
| What are the tips and tricks that you've learned to keep you as | |
| safe as you can? This topic is for that advice. While not | |
| everyone can follow every piece of advice given here, simply | |
| reading about that advice might spur creativity in modifying | |
| your own activities to keep you safe as Covid-19 continues to | |
| mutate and infect our communities. | |

| This is an excellent topic! | |
| I live with 76 year old immunocompromised significant other and | |
| I am 53 years old with a childhood of allergy/asthma. We take | |
| pandemic precautionary measures: | |
| MASK: | |
| We chose to wear masks. | |
| We enjoy staying at home | |
| We avoid maskless people for our own safety and theirs as well. | |
| if we have to seek medical treatment() We call medical institute | |
| in advance communicating our preference they wear masks. | |
| I wear mask anyway while outside just to stay sharp and for | |
| possible occasional encounter with uneducated maskless(I avoid | |
| all encounters with maskless passerbys I have a no trespassing | |
| sign inside a car on the edge of my property and tree stumps | |
| strategically placed in yard to discourage people from parking | |
| on my property) I have worn mask outside my door for four and | |
| a half years with great health and success in all daily | |
| activities and worn mask in strenuously athletic activities as | |
| well. | |
| OUTDOOR MASKING WAY OF LIFE: When I am outdoors I never | |
| socialize or play .. I chose to do something that requires a | |
| mask anyway. ThIs deters the maskless in my opinion. (Also, in | |
| my opinion I find the freshest air is through the filter of my | |
| mask.. people drink water through filters , people protect car | |
| engine s with filters .. in todays sick and polluted | |
| environment why not breathe through a filter .. why take chances | |
| when you can be in the safe side and simply mask? ) | |
| Since I always I couple masking with being outdoors I do | |
| activities which are mask friendly.. for example lawn mowing is | |
| great with mask because I dont breathe in allergens while | |
| mowing my mask is a good thing and I associate it with pleasant | |
| activities ..I do things that require masking anyway another | |
| example ; outside the window, We have a big bird feeder on back | |
| deck with birds, chipmunks , squirrels, its messy because of | |
| all the animals so we might as well mask and wash our hands when | |
| we go outside to take care of bird feeder. I figure why should I | |
| risk being maskless around a place where all sorts of animals | |
| visit and shed, graze upon, scat on etc. ..for fun here's a | |
| music video where I sing "I put a s Spell on you" which consists | |
| of many creatures at our bird feeder . I wear my mask around all | |
| creatures great and small..here's footage of my backyard habitat | |
| for animals only: | |
| Masked Man's Wild Life Habitat"I Put A Spell On You" video: | |

| We order everything in bulk from places online ( like | |
| webstaurant) and I bring the shipments in my mask from the front | |
| door to my private back door with a wheelbarrow to the back of | |
| my house discreetly to unpackaged and clean before being going | |
| through back door( often I listen to music or stories through | |
| earbuds while cleaning stuff and throwing away packaging | |
| material). | |
| This ordering stuff in bulk saves us ton of money and time and | |
| we eat better all home cooked!. Id have done this long before | |
| the pandemic began had I had known the benefits of simply | |
| staying at home and ordering all goods. | |
| For example Just one of the benefits of buying in bulk is that | |
| ya wind up eating homade which is the best for ya and the | |
| tastier than eating out... here's a video of me singing and of | |
| my loved one making a homemade pizza...just pictures of Diana | |
| baking Pizza while I sing Buddy Holly's.. I live like a king all | |
| because I buy in bulk and wear my mask!: | |
| "Not Fade Away": | |
| https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tOyDoQ9lqFSGVhwCaz8z5AZpmqFM7Rwj/view | |
| When you order your food and buy in bulk you can not only avoid | |
| the maskless people, therefore avoiding getting sick, you also | |
| eat well..it forces you to bake homemade food it's incredible | |
| you'll never eat out again | |
| .this masked way of life and buying in bulk will take all the | |
| rambling out of you as seen IN THIS VIDEO: | |
| https://drive.google.com/file/d/13DuRt6ASaw_r0fgBxHV9i_vBMMj7HEwQ/view | |
| We also have a person deliver local farmers market vegetables to | |
| our front door. We pay them by baking fresh bakery goods and | |
| leaving them in a cooler for them to pickup off the front porch. | |
| We have worked with Telehealth online medical care with much | |
| success . | |
| We have long-distant friends and family ( we share with one | |
| another with our very voices via telephone or we share our | |
| meaningful written words or thoughts online with one another | |
| even sharing our pictures of videos with one another sharing our | |
| love of life. I chose to space myself out from maskless family | |
| and friends strategically as if we were perfectly planted as of | |
| garden if one plants things too close together those things | |
| will suffocate and die in a garden. I plan my garden out and | |
| space like plants out far enough from another so they will | |
| survive. | |
| It helps to have a partner who is of like mind when it comes to | |
| pandemic survival and precautions and protective measures | |
| It is helpful to have good writing skills, and being good on | |
| phone and with online correspondence so that you can find and | |
| online support system and get things done remotely instead of in | |
| person. | |
| It might be helpful for others to remember when adopting any new | |
| difficult lifestyle or set of new skills to simply understand | |
| and have faith in the nature of habit.. once one one gets into | |
| the habit of anything it gets easier and is preferable. Habits | |
| feel good and once one is in the habit of doing anything it | |
| feels natural. | |
| I live a far better life of quality and luxury now living in | |
| this masked way of life because of strategies aforementioned | |
| not to mention I have avoided the social pitfalls such as any | |
| airborne diseases for four four and a half straight and thats | |
| nothing to sneeze at. I dare say I have adapted to the pandemic | |
| and the numerous challenges our time is facing and actually am | |
| better off and more healthy now than in pre-pandemic days . Im | |
| the happiest I have ever been in life thus far. :) | |
| I hope my masked way of life and stratagems inspire and helps | |
| others in their pursuit of happiness as it has helped mine. :) | |
| We just got a cat from humane society .. a friend who agreed to | |
| wear a mask brought the cat to us and we will bake a cake for | |
| our masked friend as a reward. We are actually masking for the | |
| new cat who is getting used to his new room for 10 days. | |
| Ironically or not the new cat is naturally quarantined himself | |
| as he is shy and comes out for food and water and night when we | |
| arent around. This is natural for the cat to self isolate for | |
| several days .. lol.. this animal is smart and so we mask for | |
| the cat when we enter the cats room for 10 days .. its a | |
| purfect system! | |
| Insofar as masking in public, I too would like to hear how | |
| others fit in or what other do to help themselves. I do find it | |
| uncomfortable and consider it to be dangerous to be in public | |
| especially if people are sick and dont know it. I personally | |
| find it better to simply perfect my own little spot in life | |
| rather than venture too far from the nest. | |
| These are hard and trying times for many people right now so | |
| please share any experience and strategies for coping socially | |
| while assuming protective or rather defensive health measures. | |
| For exercise: my significant other and I often dance in the | |
| living room in front of the TV set which might have other | |
| dancers dancing thats what I am just about to do. | |
| Have a great day! | |
| Ill be dancing with my loved one now.. | |
| Have a great day! | |
| The Masked Man! :) | |

| Id like to share some good news about how my 76 year old | |
| immunocompromised loved one and i recently adopted a cat safely | |
| during the pandemic. We communicated to humane society about our | |
| needs and that we stay at home but we still want a cat. The | |
| humane society worked with us and allowed us to adopt the cat | |
| remotely without leaving the safety of our home. We had a friend | |
| whom was also a bakery client of ours wear a mask and deliver | |
| the cat to us. (We baked some goods for the masked friend who | |
| delivered the cat to our door from humane society). We kept the | |
| cat in a nice big room with a giant sliding glass door window | |
| and also the room has a skylight and tons of hiding space and we | |
| masked upon entering the room just to be on the safe side for 10 | |
| days. This masking for a cat may seem extreme to some people but | |
| such measures were agreed upon between me and my | |
| immunocompromised loved one prior to adopting the cat. Cats can | |
| contract covid. Humans can also give cats covid. This particular | |
| cat comes from strangers. This cat I adopted came from a | |
| facility filled with other animals including staff and people | |
| who work closely with animals in the humane society I prefer to | |
| always be on the safe side and the measures we took like masking | |
| upon entering the cats room for ten days makes sense to me and | |
| made me feel safe and at same time I furnished the cat with | |
| everything he needed to be safe and happy. We visited our new | |
| cat daily in our masks for ten days.. it was easy and felt | |
| natural as our new cat adapted to his new home | |
| The cat was shy and came out to eat at night for awhile | |
| preferring to isolate himself and get used to his surroundings | |
| ..it is natural for a cat in a new home to be shy and simply | |
| hide out and observe people for awhile and thats what he did | |
| it is not recommended to force s cat out of hiding. It is | |
| recommended to simply let cat approach you on his own free will | |
| and accord so Tonight I am pleased to announce After 10 days | |
| Tigger our Maine coon cat | |
| From the humane society Came out of hiding and warmed up to me! | |
| I brought out the toys the previous owner had given us and | |
| And jingled the toy and he took a little interest in it but then | |
| his attention turned to me as I sat there he wove in and out | |
| through my legs rubbing his chin on me and the coffee table | |
| legs.. then I petted him and got up and showed him his food and | |
| water dish and he ate while I still petted him and then I exited | |
| the door door while he looked over his shoulder at me! He looks | |
| great and is acting healthy and so Tigger is out of his shell | |
| now and out of his self quarantining measures.because its been | |
| 10 days and he has emerged looking healthy and showing healthy | |
| Interests in things Now we take off our masks as well and | |
| perhaps open up the rest of the upstairs or open up another room | |
| to him if we want. Hes Purfect !! :) so thats the way we | |
| adopted our new buddy Tigger the Cat! We stayed safe during the | |
| pandemic used our masks , wore our masks around cat for ten days | |
| and now we have a beautiful creature that brings joy to our | |
| lives and I felt comfortable and safe through the whole process. | |
| Stay safe and Best wishes, | |
| From my family to yours, | |
| The Masked Man, Diana, my little dog Scamp, and our new addition | |
| to the family: Tigger the Cat! :) | |
| P.S. as I type this I am extremely glad for all the masking | |
| safety measures I have taken since the pandemic began. Today, as | |
| I type this, Where I live in North Carolina the entire state is | |
| recording extremely high levels of covid in wastewater sites. | |
| That means many people around my area could very well be teeming | |
| with covid. Wastewater sites dont lie about covid.. Im always | |
| glad for my mask and safety precautions and protocols. Vitality | |
| and good health is precious. | |

| I suppose that there is considerable overlap for what would be | |
| considered "traditional survivalism" with this topic in that | |
| they both involve a heightened amount of self-reliance above and | |
| beyond that of a typical citizen. | |
| ** Having adequate food & non-food supplies to survive | |
| distribution disruption caused by any number of events is an | |
| obvious goal. Every family is different; Every person is | |
| different and so even a generalized list of what supplies may be | |
| needed may not be entirely effective. | |
| ** Having the means to maintain your property through | |
| non-motorized means would well be another obvious goal. Having a | |
| bicycle (perhaps even a "storage bicycle" or simply a bicycle | |
| plus a bicycle trailer) for emergency transportation needs. A | |
| snow shovel instead of a snow blower (obviously only useful for | |
| colder climates)... And so forth. | |
| ** Having a non-Internet means for long-distance communication | |
| (HAM radio, perhaps? Meshtastic?) in the event of conventional | |
| communication options being unavailable. | |

| Its ironic that I just got hit by the tail end hurricane Helene | |
| here in western North Carolina. | |
| Floods, strong winds, downed trees .. and people gathering.. we | |
| are talking super spreader! People throw all caution to the wind | |
| and totally forget all precautions calling upon each other for | |
| help but not even thinking about covid | |
| Basically I was tested with all that has been mentioned. | |
| Lost electricity for awhile. | |
| Still dont have Internet but Im using cell phone data right | |
| now | |
| Fortunately I was fairly prepared. | |
| I was outside in my mask bent over a drainpipe when an unmasked | |
| neighbor almost snuck on me I was approached by a couple other | |
| people but was able to keep my distance of of course my mask | |
| repels the unmasked. I dont affiliate with the unmasked and I | |
| let some of them know from a distance I cant help them while I | |
| am masked and they arent. Its kind of silly an unmasked | |
| neighbor walking by asking if I need any help.. lol.. Im | |
| perfectly healthy.. shes the one the one thats gonnah need | |
| help. Its not the time to visit.. lol. Im in a mask!! Lol I | |
| just tell people I cant help them and they usually get the | |
| picture. | |
| I must comment how crazy the aftermath is with a whole lot of | |
| new faces wondering my little dead end street.. I cant help but | |
| feel the biblical proportions such as how floods and plagues | |
| sort of belong together .. I just know all these stranded people | |
| and their families are spreading covid like wildfire.. everybody | |
| is displaced and all excited and groups of people flocking | |
| together .. i just know we are going to see a major rise in | |
| diseases due to this behavior. | |
| Im safe because of my long held habits and protocols and strict | |
| masking .. also I was in a flood before so I sort of new what to | |
| do like where it floods in my house and where to peel the carpet | |
| back so i could mop the seepewge of watering entering fast | |
| enough it didnt spread.. still we were lucky that was close.. | |
| had some chimney leakage I was lucky but also had some skills | |
| from having been in a flood before. When the regular Internet | |
| comes back on for me Ill post some video of me in my mask | |
| walking around the yard and flooded street. Its somewhat | |
| shocking and a very humbling experience watching that water | |
| cover the road. | |
| I protected myself from disease during the whole flood knowing | |
| if one gets sick during an emergency like this they will be | |
| worthless. | |
| I cant stress enough at least for myself that theres not a | |
| whole lot I can do against a hurricane and flood.. one is pretty | |
| much powerless but one can protect ones own health .. I can | |
| control whether I breathe in stuff or not .. I do have the power | |
| to mask unlike other species .. with a mask I can can at least | |
| eliminate the chances of breathing in stuff at the wrong place | |
| and at the wrong time.. I can avoid getting a disease I feel | |
| one can stand to lose a lot and still manage to be happy but | |
| health is not one of the things you can generally lose and still | |
| be happy.. in other words as awful as it is to lose things, I | |
| feel I will never be happy without a reasonable amount of | |
| health. My body is the most sacred thing I know of. | |
| The flood was horrible but I had my my mask and my health. Not | |
| only that you dont want to breathe in what comes with flooding. | |
| There can be lots of stuff not to breathe in like sewage from | |
| flood, wet stuff that molds after the flooding, mosquitoes.. | |
| theres animals running around too .. the hurricane and floods | |
| are bad but tons of danger afterwards occurs for a long time. | |
| We were fine had lots of food because I buy in bulk. I Could | |
| light the oven because it is a gas oven. We had fresh water but | |
| that can run out real fast .. had battery headlamp so I could do | |
| stuff in the dark hands free. The whole street was flooded for | |
| awhile not that I go anywhere.. | |
| I must say because of all things I do in response to the | |
| pandemic such staying home , buying in bulk, being stocked up | |
| with things made surviving the aftermath of the flood easy . Im | |
| already the master of avoiding people like the plague anyway. | |
| The hurricane is bad enough we cant control that but we can | |
| control our behavior and reactions to it the careless | |
| maskless behavior of the victims and of those first responders | |
| is not helpful its a shame people are going to inadvertently | |
| get sick trying to help one another. Covid is sneaky and | |
| invisible and insidious to say the least. | |
| This may not be the case, for everyone but For me while the | |
| flood and hurricane is truly shocking and horrible, to me its | |
| just a physical external threat and in my mind disease is far | |
| worse in that a disease takes over the body sometimes forever | |
| and thats truly terrifying to me. | |
| Speaking only for myself, hurricanes and floods haskilled a lot | |
| of people done a lot horrendous and horrible damage.. while with | |
| diseases we can actually do something to prevent and control | |
| in my opinion people should accept the things the things they | |
| cant change and control and protect what they can too many | |
| people pretending they cant control diseases if with my mask, | |
| I can prevent a tragedy like my own hide getting a disease right | |
| after getting hit by hurricane thats why I mask all the time | |
| Im glad for my mask. I can control whether or not I get sick | |
| with an airborne disease by simply wearing my mask like Ive | |
| doing anyway since the pandemic began. | |
