Cryptosporidiosis - UK - 2024 Devon County Incident |

SUMMARY - (Country: United Kingdom) In the county of Devon, |
|
residents are being asked to boil their water as the water |
|
company, South West Water, has detected small amounts of the |
|
parasite cryptosporidium which causes the illness |
|
"cryptosporidiosis." Hundreds have been claimed to be sickened |
|
but, so far, there have only been 22 verified cases with another |
|
70 cases being investigated. The illness typically causes |
|
diarrhea-type symptoms and typically lasts for about two weeks. |

SUMMARY - The number of confirmed cases of cryptosporidiosis is |
|
now at 77. The amount of compensation for households that are |
|
still under a boil water notice has gone up from �115 to �265. |
|
The cause of the outbreak is believed to be a damaged air valve |
|
on private land. |
