Canada - New class of antiviral drugs produced - Reverses Covid- |

SUMMARY - A team of scientists at the University of Alberta (in |
|
the country of Canada) have developed a new class of antiviral |
|
drugs that has the potential to treat Covid-19. The new class of |
|
drugs has only been tested in mice so far. Covid-19, in part, |
|
causes individual cells to stop producing interferon. Interferon |
|
is used by the body to stop infected cells from producing more |
|
virus. The new class of drugs reverses this effect, causing the |
|
cells to produce interferon. |
